Facts and Events
Elizabeth Fernihough was baptised on 27th December 1738 at Flintham in Nottinghamshire, daughter of Elizabeth Fernihough, formerly Smith, and her husband John Fernihough, who was the vicar of Flintham. A brother, Thomas, was baptised on the same day. In 1743, when Elizabeth was only four years old, her father died. Her mother died in 1754, when Elizabeth was fifteen years old. Elizabeth was married on 14th June 1761 at Flintham to Benjamin Moore. He was from Congleton in Cheshire, over sixty miles from Flintham, but close to the village of Marton which is where Elizabeth's father was from. It would seem likely therefore that Elizabeth stayed in touch with her late father's family in Cheshire. Elizabeth and Benjamin had twin daughters, Ellen and Ann, baptised at Congleton in 1762. It is not clear what happened to Elizabeth, Benjamin and their daughters after 1762. No further sightings of them in Congleton have been found. However, Elizabeth, Benjamin and their daughter Ellen were all still alive in 1777 when Elizabeth's aunt Ann Walker (her father's sister) wrote her will, which mentions them. References
