Sarah Fernihough was baptised on 13th July 1735 at Flintham in Nottinghamshire, daughter of Elizabeth Fernihough, formerly Smith, and her husband John Fernihough, who was the vicar of Flintham. Sarah's father died in 1743, when Sarah was only seven years old. Sarah's mother died in 1754, when Sarah was eighteen years old.

Sarah never married. She wrote her will in 1787, when she was 52. In it she left all her property to her nephew Thomas Fernihough. After writing her will she lived almost another thirty years. Sarah died at the age of 81, being buried at Flintham on 16th March 1817.

    This is the last Will and Testament of me Sarah Fernihough of Flintham in the County of Nottingham Spinster I give and devise unto my Nephew Thomas Fernihough of Flintham aforesaid Baker all my Messuages Cottages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and real whatsoever in Flintham aforesaid or elsewhere To hold to him his heirs and assigns for ever Also I give and all my ready money Securities for money Plate Linen Household goods and Furniture and all other my goods Chattels and personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever (after payment of my just debts and funeral Expences and subject thereto) unto my said Nephew Thomas Fernihough whom I do hereby Constitute and appoint Sole Executor of this my Will hereby revoking all former and other Wills by me made In Witness whereof I the said Testatrix Sarah Fernihough have hereunto set my hand and seal the second day of August in the year of our Lord One thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven Sarah Fernihough Signed sealed published and declared by the said Testatrix as and for her last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in her presence and in the presence of each other and at her request have subscribed our names as witnesses Rich[ar]d Hutton Geo[rge] Hutton Sam[ue]l Roberts Pass[e]d 12th Sept[embe]r 1817
