Eleanor Fernihough was baptised on 4th September 1729 at Flintham in Nottinghamshire, daughter of Elizabeth Fernihough, formerly Smith, and her husband John Fernihough, who was the vicar of Flintham.

Eleanor's father died in 1743, when Eleanor was 13 years old. Her mother died in 1754, when Eleanor was 24 years old.

On 23rd February 1755, Eleanor married John Elland at Flintham. They went on to have two children baptised at Flintham: a daughter called Sarah in 1757 and a son called John in 1760.

Eleanor and John were married for nearly 44 years. John was buried at Flintham on 18th February 1799.

After John's death Eleanor moved to Normanton on Trent, about 20 miles north of Flintham.

Eleanor died at the age of 89. She was buried back at Flintham on 17th December 1818.

ch. 4 Sep 1729, Flintham: Helen daughter of John Ferniough (entry from Parish Register)
ch. 7 Oct 1729, Flintham: Henry son of John Ferniough (entry from Bishop's Transcript)

There appears to be a discrepancy between the Parish Register and the Bishop's Transcript on this baptism. As there was an Eleanor Fernihough who married at Flintham in 1755 to a John Elland, and some of Eleanor's nieces and nephews refer to Elland cousins in their wills, it is considered the Parish Register is correct and this baptism was a girl named Helen / Ellen / Eleanor rather than a boy called Henry.
