Elizabeth Bedford was baptised on 5th April 1790 at Simpson in Buckinghamshire, daughter of Mary Bedford, formerly Smith, and her husband, John Bedford. A sister, Mary, was baptised on the same day. As it was six years since their parents' previous child had been baptised it is quite likely that either Mary or Elizabeth was a couple of years old. Elizabeth's parents had previously lived in the nearby village of Bow Brickhill. Elizabeth's mother died in 1812 and was buried at Simpson. It is not clear when Elizabeth's father died.
On 7th March 1812, just two weeks after her mother's burial, Elizabeth married Jesse Major at Simpson. He was from the neighbouring parish of Woughton on the Green.
Elizabeth and Jesse had a number of children, although it is not clear how many. They appear to have settled in the small town of Fenny Stratford, part of which was in the parish of Simpson. In 1813 Jesse signed a petition organised by the Fenny Stratford Baptist congregation. If Jesse and Elizabeth were practising Baptists they would not have had their children baptised as infants. In the 1851 census Elizabeth had two children living with her who both indicated that they had been born in Fenny Stratford in the 1820s.
Jesse died in 1839, aged 59. Elizabeth appears in both the 1841 and 1851 censuses living on Cross Street in Fenny Stratford. In 1841 she appears to have had three children living with her, and in 1851 she had two children living with her. On both occasions Elizabeth was described as a lace maker.
Elizabeth died in 1855. She was said to be 66 years old.
