Family tree▼ Facts and Events
Jesse Major was baptised on 6th December 1779 at Woughton on the Green in Buckinghamshire, son of William and Ann Major. On 7th March 1812, aged 32, Jesse married Elizabeth Bedford in the neighbouring parish of Simpson, although Jesse was still said to be living at Woughton at the time of their marriage. Jesse and Elizabeth had a number of children, although it is not clear how many. They appear to have settled in the small town of Fenny Stratford, part of which was in the parish of Simpson. In 1813 Jesse signed a petition organised by the Fenny Stratford Baptist congregation. If Jesse and Elizabeth were practising Baptists they would not have had their children baptised as infants. In the 1851 census Elizabeth had two children living with her who both indicated that they had been born in Fenny Stratford in the 1820s. Jesse died in 1839, aged 59. Elizabeth survived him by fifteen years. References
