• Page 131.--1st September, 1750. James Patton's will--Daughter, Mary, wife to William Thompson, 1 negro woman; tract called Spring Hill; 3,000 acres on which Saml. Stalnaker and others is living, known by name of Indian Fields, on waters of Houlston's river, a branch of the Missisipio. Grandson, James Thompson, infant, remainder in above in fee tail. Daughter, Margaret, now wife of Col. John Buchanan. To son-in-law, William Thompson, the tract called Springfield, joining where widow Gouldman now lives and on which Henry Patton lives. William is to keep the estate intact for his son, James, until 1772. To Margaret, tract called Cherry tree bottom, near Robert Looney's tract at mouth of Purgatory, tract on which there is a small stone house. Margaret's daughter, Mary; sister, Preston, and her son, William Preston, £10 to be paid to Rev. John Craig, pastor at Tinkling Spring, to pay his stipends from 1740 to 1750, to be paid by the congregation out of the money advanced by him to help build the meeting house. £10 of same to be laid out for a pulpit and pulpit cloth. John Preston's bond to be given up to his son. Wm. Preston. All debts due by George Wilson, who is married to testator's wife's niece, Rebecca Vicers (Viers?), to be given up. Stewart and Edward Hall to make all demands for him and answer all against him in any of His Majesty's Dominions, and second, a will)--Three sons, George, James and John, to be educated. Executors, attorneys above. Teste: Hugh McClure, Benj. Stewart. Proved, 18th November, 1760, by the witnesses. Archd. Stewart refuses to execute; the others qualify, with Alex. Kelly, Benj. Stewart.

Proved, 17th June, 1788. by the witnesses, and 15th July, 1788, David Coulter qualifies and leave reserved for Davis to qualify later.

Fulton Collaterals - HALL, STUART , BUCHANAN (excerpt from "Archibald Stuart" by J.A.Stuart⁶ [page number needed])

1 A ... Eleanor Stuart, daughter of Archibald, Sr and her Descendants (1)

Eleanor was married on April 24 1744 to Edward Hall; his father was Isaac Hall and his mother Sarah Atkinson Hall. The Halls came from Armagh County, Ireland, in 1736. The Hall land adjoined the Stuart land in Augusta. Eleanor Stuart inherited from her father land about five miles from the present city of Waynesboro, and adjoining the land Mr. Hall inherited from his father. South River flowed thru the property. Mr. And Mrs. Hall built a substantial log house on their farm about 1743. It was still standing and in good condition in 1873 but has since been torn down. Records are not entirely clear as to the number of children Mr. And Mrs. Hall had. Seven are mentioned in their wills. Mr. Hall's will was admitted to record Sept. 20, 1795 [*]; his wife's will was admitted to record Oct. 25, 1802. Some records indicate Mr. and Mrs. Hall had eight children. We record such information as we have.

• Chalkley: N. S. 53--Deed dated 21st March, 1796, by William Anderson and Margaret, his wife, of Fayette County, Ky., to Andrew Boyd of Wythe County, conveys tract in Botetourt County. Recorded in Botetourt County, February-June, 1797. Recorded in Fayette County, April, 1796. On 10th July, 1766, John Smith made an entry for 400 acres at mouth of Purgatory Creek on James River, including town of Pattonsburg, which in 1770 he sold to Margaret Buchanan, widow of John Buchanan .

   ELEANOR Stuart (b) (dau. of Archibald and Janet Stuart), was b. in Ireland. She m. Edward Hall, a native of Ireland. He came to the Valley in 1736 and settled on South River, six miles above Waynesboro. They were m. April 24, 1744, and had 10 children, several of whom d. young. The 10 who lived to maturity were :
   
   a. Isaac Hall, Sr., b. May 13, 1747; studied medicine in Scotland. He m. Martha Everard of Petersburg, where he resided.
   
   b. Sally Hall, b. Dec. 19, 1751. She m. Capt. James Tate who was killed in the battle of Guilford. She afterwards m. Hugh Felton.
   
   c. Thomas Hall, b. Aug. 31, 1754. He was twice m.
   
   d. Elizabeth Hall, b. Dec. 27, 1756. She married Col. Andrew Fulton. Of their children :
   a. Judge Andrew Fulton of Wythe, was one; also
   b. John H. Fulton, M. C. of the Wythe District.
   
   e. Alexander Hall (son of Eleanor). He was b. May 24, 1759; inherited his father's homestead; m. his cousin Mary Patterson Stuart, dau. of Major Alexander Stuart and sister of Judge Archibald. Among their children were :
   a. Dr. Isaac Hall, Jr.
   b. Alexander S. Hall, and others.
   
   f. Benjamin Hall (son. of Eleanor and Edward), b. Feb. 17, 1765. He m. his cousin Priscilla Stuart and removed to Missouri.
   
   g. John Hall (son of Eleanor and Edward), b. May 31, 1767; settled in N. C, and was a Judge of the Supreme Court. He d. Jan. 29, 1833.
   
   h. Eleanor Hall (dau. of Eleanor and Edward), m. Mr. Douglas ; had dau. : Ellen Stuart Douglas, who m. Mr. McCue and resides in Fishersville, Va., Augusta Co.

   IV. Eleanor, daughter of Archibald and Janet Stuart, married Edward Hall, a native of North Ireland, who came to the Valley in 1736, and settled on South river, six miles above Waynesborough. They were married April 24, 1744, and had ten children, several of whom died young. Those who lived to maturity were:
   :1. Isaac Hall, Sr., born May 12, 1747, and studied medicine in Scotland. He jilted his cousin. Miss Jenny Stuart, and suffered the penalty, as stated. His wife was Martha Everard, of Petersburg, where he resided.
   :2. Sally Hall, born December 19, 1751, and married Captain James Tate, who was killed in the battle of Guilford. She afterwards married Hugh Fulton.
   :3. Thomas Hall, born August 31, 1754,—twice married.
   :4. Elizabeth Hall, born December 27, 1756, married Colonel Andrew Fulton. Judge Andrew Fulton, of Wythe, and John H. Fulton, M. C., of the Wythe District, were sons of Andrew and Elizabeth Fulton.
   :5. Alexander Hall, born May 24, 1759, inherited his father's homestead. Married his cousin, Mary Patterson Stuart, daughter of Major Alexander Stuart, and sister of Judge Archibald Stuart. Among his children were Mrs. Eleanor Douglass, Alexander S. Hall, Dr. Isaac Hall, Jr., and others.
   :6. Benjamin Hall, born February 17, 1765, married his cousin, Priscilla Stuart, and removed to Missouri. ,

   ... During his residence in Augusta, he [Archibald Stuart] acquired large landed estates, which, either in his lifetime or by his will, he divided among his four children. His will was admitted to record on Nov. 17th, 1761. ...
   
   ... To his daughter ELEANOR, who intermarried with Edward Hall, the son of an Irish immigrant, who will be more fully noticed hereafter, he gave a tract of land on South River, adjacent to the land which E. Hall then owned, and also aided Mr. Hall in building an addition to his house. This addition was of neatly hewn logs, and although largely over a hundred years old, (about 130) is still standing and occupied by Mr. Clinton Hall, one of the descendants of Edward Hall and Eleanor Stuart. The Hall land is situated on both sides of South River, about five miles above Waynesborough, and is the same on which Dr. Isaac Hall lived and recently died.
   
   ... Eleanor Stuart, daughter of Archibald Stuart, married Ed. Hall, who migrated, at an early day, from Armagh county, Ireland, and came to Virginia in 1736. The name of Edward Hall's father was Isaac. His mother's maiden name was Sarah Allison.
   
   Edward Hall and Eleanor Stuart, his wife, had six sons, viz: Isaac, Archibald, Thomas, Alexander, Benjamin, John, and four daughters, Sally, Elizabeth, Eleanor and Janet. ...
