  • Page 190.--18th March, 1747. Robert McClenachan to David Stuart, £32; 331 acres in Beverley Manor; corner to land of heirs of Alexander Brackenridge. Witnesses, Thos. Lewis, Jno. Buchanan, John Pickins. Acknowledged by Robert, and dower released by Sarah, 18th March, 1746.
  • 1750, October 4th--David Stuart, 400, on New River Creek, transferred Robert Willey.

Andrew Greer and Ruth to David Stuart, £100, one moiety of 321 acres on Back Creek originally surveyed for Alexander Walker and sold by him to Patrick Martin, and by Martin to Andrew Greer and Samuel Cowden, the same tract whereon Patrick lately lived, joining John Moffet and Samuel Young, the other moiety being lately mortgaged by Samuel Cowden to David Stuart.

  • Page 82.--29th November, 1750. Andrew Lewis and David Stewart, trustees of that part of Staunton belonging to Augusta Co., to Robert McClenaghan. Court ordered trustees to rent all the lots in Staunton (30th August, 1750) for 21 years. Lot No. 1 containing 48 poles, on south by creek; on W. by Augusta St.; on N. by Main St., without a name, and by No. 10. No. 2, containing half an acre; on W. by Augusta St. By lot No. 3, by lot No. 9, on So. by the main street without a name. Lease for 21 years and yearly rent of 11 sh, 6/. Teste: John Hopes, John Lewis.

David Stewart's will--To wife Margaret, and to her oldest daughter, Mary Pall (Paul), 1 tract lying over James River, 100 acres; to son, John; to daughter, Sebing (?), 219-1/2 acres purchased from Andw. Johnston; to daughter, Elizabeth, tract on Round Oak and part of a lot in Staunton (no buildings on it) between Saml. Cowdon and me, and the lot that Jno. Stuart now lives on to be sold; to son, John, plantation testator lives on with 2 negros, goot from Greor formerly Patrick Martins. Executors, George Mathis and Wm. Lewis. Teste: Joseph Ray. Proved, 19th March, 1767, wholly in testator's handwriting. Executors refuse. Administration granted George Mathews and Andw. Lewis, who qualify with Sampson Mathews, Robert Breckinridge.

1751 - David STEWART was Sheriff of Augusta Co., Virginia, 21 Nov 1751. He married in Wales the widow of John PAUL (died 1745 in Scotland). David STUART, an adult, was baptized by Mr. CRAIG, 21 Jan 1747. Col. David STEUART is said to have lost his life by drowning in the Shenandoah River.

From Chalkley's Augusta County, VA Court Judgements:
  • Vol. 2 - MARCH, 1780 (B). - Andrew Johnston vs. Sebina Stewart.--Writ, 1st April, 1771. In 1749 Andrew Johnston purchased land of John Ramsey. Sebina Stuart was daughter of David Stewart. Deposition of Agatha Madison, 24th November, 1775, says Sabina married George Wilson. Andrew went to Carolina and made a mortgage to pay David Stewart £26 if he ever came back from Carolina.
