Porter Sr. a life long resident of Benzonia died early Wednesday morning at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City at the age of 74 years. David was born on Nov. 3, 1921, in Benzie County, the son of Eric David and May Pearl (Long) Porter, On April 21, 1944 in Benzonia he was united in marriage to Gwendolyn Scarbrough. He had served our country honoably during World War II in the U.S. Army. He worked for Trapp & Sons Farms for almost 50 years, the only job hehad as an adult. He truly enjoyed following his grandchildren as they competed in verious high school sports. He also was known to assist many of the elderly folks in Benzonia area. David is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn, of Benzonia; two sons, David (Gail) Porter Jr. of Interlochan and Daniel (Clara) Porter of Kakaska; one daughter, Mary Ann Jackson of Frankfort, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Porter; and two sisters, Minnie Mae Moore and Olive Hopkins. Services for David will be held on Saturday at 1 p m in the Perry Chapel of McElduff Funeral Home, 7223 South St., Benzonia. Robert Bodell, "evangelist," of the Benzie Area Church of Christ will officate. Burial will be in the Benzonia Township cemetery. Friends may visit with family at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p m Friday.
