From Chalkley’s Augusta County Records:

  • Page 270.--3d November, 1769. David Black's will--To wife Elizabeth; to children. Executors, Saml. Black and John Bigham. Teste: John Henderson, Jno. Black, Wm. Cowan. Produced 19th December, 1769, by Samuel Black. John Bigham refuses to execute. Widow Elizabeth objected on the ground the testator was not in his right senses, but the will is declared good, and Saml. Black qualifies, with John Black and Michael Bowyer.
  • Vol. 1 - DECEMBER 19, 1769. - (62) David Black's will contested by his widow, Elizabeth Black, on ground of insanity, but overruled and recorded.
  • Vol. 1 - MARCH 21, 1770 - (66) Alexr. McClenachan appointed guardian of John, Andrew, James, Elizabeth and David Black, orphans of David Black.
  • Page 292.--21st March, 1770. Alexander McClenachan's bond (with Robert McClenachan) as guardian to John, Andrew, James, Elizabeth and David Black, orphans of David Black.
  • Page 392.--__ _____, 1770. David Black's estate in account with Saml. Black, administrator.

  • Page 230.--15th February, 1758. John Black's will, yeoman--Wife, Isabell; sons, David and John, executors; son, Samuel; son, William Brown Teste: Adam Thompson, Moses Thompson, Andrew Cowan. Produced 16th March, 1758, and not being signed, Samuel Black, the heir-at-law, gave his consent. It was then proved by Adam Thompson and Cowan. David Black qualified.
  • Page 138.--18th March, 1772. Samuel Black, son and heir-at-law of John Black, deceased, and Rebecca ( ) to John Black, 180 acres in Beverley Manor on a branch of Lewis' Creek, corner David Black's land. Delivered: Patrick Buchanan, 30th June, 1774.
  • Page 191.--16th September, 1783. John Black, son and heir-at-law of Samuel Black, deceased, to John Black, plantation that David Black, deceased. live on in Beverley Manor. Teste: Alexander Williams, Walter Dunn.
