Daniel James Roney who known as Dan, was born on 28th July 1858 in Ararat, Victoria, Australia. Dan was born first of twelve children to Peter Roney and Sarah Brookman.

In the newspaper clipping on this page Dan won the Class B, Double Furrow ploughing in a local event which was held at his fathers property.

Dan married Mary on the 18th February 1879 in Sandhurst, Victoria. All but the youngest of their eight children were born in Victoria and the youngest was born in New South Wales while they were moving north to settle in Toowoomba, Queensland.

Dan passed away in Toowoomba, aged 69 on the 19th September 1927.
