After moving to Queensland with his parents Jack ended up living in the Northern Territory where he met his wife to be, Ruby Maud Mudford. They went to Sydney in 1915 and were married there prior to returning to the Northern Territory to manage the Government Experimental Farm at the Daly River. John did some contract droving for work and on Friday the 26th November 1926 the Northern Territory, District Licensing Bench approved the transfer of a Slaughtering Licence from George Lim to John Joseph Roney on a premises at 2 Mile Creek, Katherine. John was the Secretary of the Pine Creek Race Club in 1928 and in 1932 John was mentioned as a witness of good standing in a case where a boxer had died in the ring. In another source which praises Ruby for her good management of the family including collecting milk and eggs and making bread which she would then sell and give money to women in need, Jack is mentioned as taking the families money and drinking heavily and gambling. Jack died in Alice Springs on the 13th December 1935, prior to his daughters engagement to John Bowman in 1947. In Katherine, NT there are two streets named after Jack Roney, one for himself and the other for his son who is also the namesake for Jack Roney Ward in Katherine hospital described as “a remarkable gentleman... who worked for many years at the Katherine Hospital”.
