Maurice C. "Maury" Summers, 79, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at the Stanford Court Nursing Center.
He grew up in Wabash County and attended Linlawn School. He served during World War II from 1943 to 1946, and in the Korean War in 1951. He attended Commercial Trades Institute, Des Plaines, Ill., in 1949, and moved to Warsaw in 1950.
He owned his own refrigeration and appliance business, and was a manufacturer's representative before retiring to Tampa, Fla., in 1980. He moved to Mt. Dora, Fla., in 1990, and relocated to San Diego, Calif., in 1999, for health and family.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason, and was a member of the F&AM Lodge No.73, Warsaw, and the Congregational Church, Mt. Dora, Fla.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Ruth Sterling, San Diego, Calif.; a son, Marvin (Barbara Witherow) Summers, San Diego, Calif.; eight brothers, Glen (Ruth Anne) Summers, Rex Summers, and Robert (Joyce) Summers, all of Wabash, Jim (Marge) Summers, Lagro, Ralph (Carrie) Summers, Geneva, Ala.; Jack (Carolyn) Summers, LaFontaine, Richard (Barbara) Summers, Valparaiso, and Bernard (Becky) Summers, Royse City, Texas; three sisters, Helen Roush, Webster, Fla., Mrs. Paul (Phyllis) Steele, Akron, and Judy Murphy, Wabash; and two grandchildren, Marvin Summers Jr., Aliso Viejo, Calif., and Jacquelyn Summers, Overland Park, Kan. A son, Michael Summers, died in 1990.
Internment will be at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, Calif.
