Personal History

Cecil Henry Anderson Pelham,[2][4] (Gent.,)[5] (first) son of Evelyn Cornwallis Anderson Pelham Esq. of Bracebridge by Harriett Frances[2] Hutton[1] (and grandson of the second Earl of Yarborough, deceased), was baptized on 16 March 1874 in the parish of Bracebridge, Lincolnshire, England.[2]

Cecil was appointed an executor of his father and proved his will on 29 May 1908 at London.[25]

Military Service

Cecil was commissioned to be second lieutenant on 4 February 1891[5] in the 4th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment, and he was promoted to be lieutenant on 29 April 1893.[6] He was appointed an extra aide-de-camp to the Right Hon. Lord Lamington KCMG, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of Queensland, and was seconded as lieutenant on 11 February 1897,[7] and he was promoted to be captain on 19 May 1897.[8] He transferred to the 12th Lancers to be second lieutenant on 18 April 1900.[9] He was appointed to be adjutant of the Provisional Regiment of Lancers and was seconded as lieutenant on 1 January 1902.[10] He resigned his commission on 20 May 1903.[11]

As a captain in the Reserve of Officers, Cecil was granted the honorary rank of major in the Lincolnshire Imperial Yeomanry on 10 October 1906.[12] He transferred to the Northamptonshire Imperial Yeomanry on 13 February 1908,[14] and he was appointed a brigade major of a Territorial Mounted Brigade and was seconded on 15 May 1908.[13][15] He was appointed to be supernumerary to the remount establishment on 15 August 1912,[16] and appointed deputy assistant director on 10 December 1912.[17] He resigned his commission on 29 January 1913.[18]

Cecil was appointed temporary staff captain of Remounts from 15 October 1914 to 20 August 1915.[19] He was appointed superintendent of Remount Services on 18 January 1916.[20] He was appointed temporary deputy assistant director of Remounts on 10 December 1916[21] and a temporary major on 25 February 1918.[22]

On 3 June 1919,[24] Cecil was appointed by King George V to be an Officer of the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE). He finally relinquished his commission, having reached the age limit, on 25 January 1924.[23]

Death and Probate

Cecil Henry Anderson Pelham of Cedar House, in the parish of Castor, Northamptonshire, died there on 14 November 1945[4] (registered in the district of Peterborough[3]).

On 2 March 1946 at Nottingham, administration (save and except settled land) was granted to Charles Cornwallis Anderson Pelham Welby land agent and the Hon. Georgina Pelham widow. His effects were valued £10,839-16-9. Also on 24 September 1946 at Nottingham, administration (limited to settled land) was granted to Charles Cornwallis Anderson Pelham Welby land agent and the Hon. Marcus Herbert Pelham capt. H.M. Army. His effects were valued £63,248-15-5.[4]
