Personal History
Charles Cornwallis Anderson Pelham, (Gent.,)[5] was born about 1876 (registered in the district of Lincoln[1]).
Charles became a second lieutenant of the Leicestershire Yeomanry Cavalry (Prince Albert's Own) on 18 December 1895.[5] He was promoted to be lieutenant on 4 March 1899.[6]
Charles, then of Allington Hall, Lincolnshire, and styled Esquire, received a grant by royal licence of King George VI on 16 April 1937 to him and his issue to take and use the surname of Welby after that of Anderson-Pelham and to take and bear the Arms of Welby quarterly with those of his own family.[2]
Charles was appointed to be a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) by the King on 26 April 1945.[7]
Death and Probate
Charles Cornwallis Anderson Pelham-Welby of South Luffenham Hall, in the parish of South Luffenham, Rutland, died there on 5 October 1959[4] (registered in the district of Uppingham[3]).
On 4 January 1960 at London, administration (save and except settled land) was granted to (his brother) Reginald Evelyn Anderson Pelham, retired administrative officer for the colonial service. His effects amounted to £60,056-9-8. Also on 8 April 1960 at London, administration (limited to settled land) was granted to Philip Beaumont Frere and Michael James Mellows, solicitors. His effects amounted to £60,460-4-11.[4]
