Catherine was 77 years, 11 months & 13 days old at the time of her death.
In the 1900 census, Catherine was living in Loudon Twp., Carroll Co., Ohio. She was listed as a widow age 71 born May 1829. It also stated her parents were born in Maryland, and she had 5 children, but only 4 were still living at that time.

Catherine Colar of Kilgore, widow of the late William Colar, died Tuesday morning at 4 o'clock. She lived alone with her grand daughter, Miss Clara Colar. The remains were interred yesterday in Kilgore, the funeral service having been conducted by Rev. G. M. Schmucker of Canton. She was the mother of Mrs. John T. Crumrine of Canton, Mrs. Mary Crumrine Boyd of Alliance, Mrs. T. O. Richards of Kilgore and Mrs. Drusilla Philpott of Tecumsehe, Nebraska. Deceased was a life long member of the Lutheran church and was earnest in her devotion and attendance.

Mrs. Catherine Colar was born in Loudon Township, Carroll County, May 17, 1829, and died April 30, 1907. She was of a family of twelve, of which five still survive. During her entire life she lived in Loudon township. At the age of 15 she joined the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and from that time was a faithful member and tailing Christian worker until her death. She was united in marriage to William Colar February 29, 1848, and unto them were born five children: Harvey, now deceased; Drusilla Philpott, Mary Boyd, Sarah J. Richards and Martha E. Crumrine. February 4, 1881, her husband died leaving her alone to battle with life. She bore it bravely to the end. As a mother no one could be kinder or more patient and sympathetic than she was. Although she lived to an advanced age her mental faculties were strong and clear, and life was by no means burdensome. With strong faith in her Redeemer and a bright hope for heaven, she set sail for that city whose builder and maker is God.
This is Catherine's will:
In the name of the Benevolent Father of all, I Catherine Colar do make and publish this my last will and testament.
Item 1st -- It is my will that my just debts and funeral expenses be paid out of my estate.
Item 2nd - I give and devis, to my daughters, Mary E. Crumrine, Drusilla Phillpot and Martha E. Crumrine or to their heirs or assigns, to each of them Twenty five dollars, to be paid out of my estate by my executor herein after named.
Item 3rd - I give and devis to Otho Richards all of my sheep, Cattle and grain, of which I may be possessed at the time of my decease.
Item 4th - I give and devis the balance of my estate both personal and real consisting of notes, moneys, credits and household goods, and the town property on which I now, live to my daughter Sarah Jane Richards and my granddaughter Clara Colar their heirs and assigns share and share alike.
Item 5th - I do hereby nominate and appoint Otho Richards executor of this my last will and testament I do also authorize and empower him to sell by privet sale as he may think proper my real estate and deed, to purchaser to execute acknowledge and deliver in fee simple.

MRS. CATHERINE COLAR, widow of the late William Colar, who died in Loudon Township, Carroll County, February 4, 1881, was born in what is now German Township, Harrison County (then a part of Jefferson County), Febrary 11, 1824. Her father, Conrad Slates, a native of Loudoun County, Va., born November 25, 1798, was married in that State, in 1818, to Miss Hannah Funk, who was born in Maryland, October 31, 1800. By this union there were twelve children, of whom the following is a record: John W., born January 25, 1820, is in Germano, Ohio; Mrs. Drusilla Hibbs, born March 6, 1822, lives in Loudon Township, Carroll County; Mrs. Margaret Burrier, born July 8, 1824, is deceased; Samuel, born November 12, 1826, is in Iowa; Catharine C., is the subject of this biographical memoir; Mrs. Leah Albaugh, born October 5, 1831, lives in Indiana; Solomon, born December 29, 1833, resides in Kilgore, Loudon Township; Joseph, born June 22, 1836, is in Kansas; Mrs. Martha Lucas, born October 26, 1838, is deceased; Mrs. Mary A. Hamilton, born November 19, 1840, and Harvey, born May 17, 1843, both live in Nodoway County, Mo., and one was still-born. About the year 1819 Mr. and Mrs. Slates came to Ohio, where he purchased three-quarters of Section 1 in what is now Loudon Township, Carroll County, and here put up a cabin on the quarter where George T. Burrier now lives. In this Mr. Slates resided for some years, and then erected a hewed.log house, where he lived the rest of his life. He served as a justice of the peace several years, and be and his wife were members of the Lutheran Charch.
The subject of our sketch grew to womanhood on the old farm, the extent of her education being three months at the district schools, as most of her time was spent at the spinning wheel, in hoeing corn, raking hay, following the barrow, reaping wheat or other occupations on the farm. On February 29, 1848, she became united in marriage with William Colar, who was born in what is now German Township, Harrison County, February 11, 1824. His father, Christian Henry Colar, wae born in 1783, in Wurtemberg, Germany, where he received a good practical education, and at the age of seventeen enlieted in the German army, soon being promoted by degrees of rank from private to captain. He served sixteen years, and after leaving the army he married bis first wife, who bore him two children, but they and the mother died soon after the birth of the second child. About the year 1835 Mr. Colar sailed for the United States, and while in New York City he found employment in an extensive sugar-house. Here he remained some time, and then came to Harrison County, Ohio, where he purchased thirty-five acres of land, which be cleared and improved, and on which he passed the rest of his days. He was married in what is now Harrison County to his second wife, in the person of Miss Barbara Burrier, a native of Virginia, who bore him twelve children, viz: Henry, residing in Loudon Township, Carroll County; William and Andrew, deceased; Jacob, also in Loudon Township; Obediah, deceased; Emmanuel and Mrs. Barbara Burrier, both in Loudon Township; Elizabeth, deceased; Mrs. Susan Burrier, in Perry Townsbip, Carroll County; Mrs. Christian States, in Dell Roy, Carroll County; Mrs. Mary Burrier, in Kilgore, and Regina, who died in infancy. Mr. Colar taught school for several years in Harrison County, and was a member of the Lutheran Church for a long period.
To Mr. and Mrs. William Colar were born five children, as follows: Harvey, deceased; Mrs. Mary E. Crumrine and Mrs. Sarah J. Richards, both in Loudon Township., Carroll County; Mrs. Drusilla Philpott, in Tecumseh, Johnson Co., Neb., and Mrs. Martha E. Crumrine, in Perry Township, Carroll Co., Ohio. Our subject and her husband, after their marriage, took up their residence in Loudon Township, on the farm now owned by Mrs. Colar. Mr. Colar, at the time of his death, owned 232 acres of land; in his political convictions he was a Democrat.
