Will Transcript

In the Name of God Amen I Catharine Miller of Shannando County and State of Virginia being weak in body but of perfect mind and memory. And knowing that it is appointed for all woman once to die. Do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament. And first I Give and Recommend my Soul to God who gave it ~ And my body to be buried in a Christian Like manner at the Discretion of my Executors ~ Nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall Receive the same again by the mighty power of God ~ And as for such worldly Goods as God has Blest one with in this Live I give and bequeath them in manner following Viz:
And first it is my Will and desire that all my Just debts and funerall Charges be paid and Satisfied.
Item I Give and Bequeath to my beloved son Joseph Hopewell my Negro man James. Also my bed and furniture.
Item I Give and Bequeath to my beloved Grand Sons Viz George Millar, William Millar and Joseph Millar Sons of James Millar to Each five pounds Current money of Virginia.
Item the Remaining part of my Estate I give and Bequeath to my beloved Grand Sons James Millar and Vooest Isaac Millar Sons of the above named James Millar to be Equally Devided between them And all of the above Legacies I Give to them their heirs and to Each of their heirs and assigns forever but if Any of the above named Legacies Should die before the have show? full heirs be gotten of their body, It is my will that their Legacy Should be Equally devided between the Surviving Legatees
Item. I Constitute and appoint my beloved son Joseph Hopewell and my beloved Son-in-Law Thomas Allen Executors of this my Last Will and Testament Revoking all and Every other former Will and Testament or Legacies my me made Ratifying and Confirming this to be my Last Unless Revoked by me.
In Witness whereof I have here Unto Set my hand and Seal this twenty forth Day of October And in the year of our Lord One thousand Seven hundred and Eighty Eight.

At a Court held for the County of Shanandoah on Thursday the 6th day of July 1792.
This Last Will and Testament of Catharine Miller deceased was Exhibited into This Court by Joseph Hopewell and Thomas Allen Executors of therin last will and Testament named and was proved by the oaths of Robert S. Russell a witness thereto and Ordered to be Certified and on Motion of the said Executors a probat thereof in dur form is granted them They having sworn to the same and given bond and Security according to Law.
