James Millar and several of his children are named in the will of his mother-in-law, Catherine Dubois (Hopewell/Millar) (1715-1792), in Shenandoah County, Virginia, as follows:
- Item I Give and Bequeath to my beloved Grand Sons Viz George Millar, William Millar and Joseph Millar Sons of James Millar to Each five pounds Current money of Virginia.
- Item the Remaining part of my Estate I give and Bequeath to my beloved Grand Sons James Millar and Vooest Isaac Millar Sons of the above named James Millar to be Equally Devided between them And all of the above Legacies I Give to them
their heirs and to Each of their heirs and assigns forever but if Any of the above named Legacies Should die before the have show? full heirs be gotten of their body, It is my will that their Legacy Should be Equally devided between the Surviving Legatees
