Obit from Carroll Times April 1940 Lidderdale, April 18.--Mrs Katherine Janssen died at her home in Lidderdale at 11:30PM. Wednesday April 12, after a lingering illness. She was 65 years old. Mrs Janssen had been bedfast since Feb. 26th, at which time she was taken to the Davidson Hospital in Lake City for treatment. She had been cared for at her home since her return from the hospital, Apr. 3rd. The body was taken Thursday evening from the Hoffman Funeral home to the family home in Lidderdale, wher it rested until the time of burial. A short service was held at the family residence at 1:30 Sat. afternoon and was followed by rites at Imm. Lutheran Church with Rev. R. Herrmann,officiating Burial was made in West Lawn cemetery in Glidden. Mrs Janssen was born Katherine Margaret Best, daughter of John J. and Anna Best at Hancock, Co., in Illinois, Dec. 25, 1873. When she was two years old she came to Carroll Co. with her parents, who were among the early settlers here. They brought a farm north of Glidden and Mrs Janssen lived until her marriage. She became the bride of Jacob H. Janssen, Sept. 28, 1904. The ceremony taking place in Grant twp. with the Rev. Schlieser officiating. Surviving Mrs Janssen are two daughters and two sons. Ester Janssen at home; Walter Janssen, Auburn; Garhard Janssen, Lytton and Mrs Kenneth Hike (Frieda), Omaha; Three step-children. Henry Janssen, Auburn; Mrs Ben Berns (Anna), Carroll: and Andrew Janssen, Auburn; four grandchildren; three brothers, Cord Best, Glidden; G.H. Best, Lidderdale, and one sister, Mrs Henry Wenck, Carroll.
