Mill Creek Hundred Houstons

Overview

Person:Archibald Houston (2) acquired land from his father inlaw, John Stephenson, in the Stovers Mill Creek area of what was then Augusta County, but now lies within modern Rockingham County. Stover's Mill Creek, a tributary of the Shannandoah, does not exist as such today, but is probably now known as "Mill Creek" which discharges into the Shannandoah near Grotto's, Virginia. The USGS map of the area shows a feature known as Goode's Mill, which may be the location of Stover's original mill after which the creek was named.
John Stephenson's property is described by some genealogists as being in the Cross Key's area, which encompasses modern Mill Creek. He is said to be buried in the Cross Keys' Cemetery, which may be the resting place of Archibald Houston, as well, though if present, both graves appear to be unmarked today.
