Facts and Events
[edit] Personal HistoryAmos Foster, sometimes Jr., second son of Amos Foster and Elisabeth (Kittredg), was born 30 November 1727, in Tewksbury, Province of Massachusetts Bay.[1][3] He died intestate[4] 19 February 1798, in the same place, in Massachusetts.[2][3] Amos Foster Jr. and Hannah Merrill were married 4 March 1752, in Tewksbury. The town records of Tewksbury list the births of their children. An intention of marriage was published 16 August 1777, in Tewksbury, for Amos Foster and Sarah French of Billerica. They were married 21 October 1777, in Billerica, by Rev. Henry Cumings. On 11 April 1798,[4] in the probate court of Middlesex Co., Sarah Foster, widow, was appointed administrator of the estate of Amos Foster late of Tewksbury, gentleman, and she, along with Jonathan Brown and Amos Foster (son of the deceased), gentleman, all of Tewksbury, signed a bond in the amount of $30,000. On 27 April 1798, inventory of the estate was taken by Jonathan Brown Esq., Jacob Frost, yeoman, both of Tewksbury, and the Hon. Isaac Stearns Esq. of Billerica. The lands and buildings were valued at $1900, and the sum total of other items was $545.88. The same persons were appointed on 8 November 1798 to take a new inventory for the widow's dower. On 23 April 1799, the real estate, including the homestead farm of about 60 acres and additional lots of about 56 acres, were valued at $1400 (with her third being $466.66). The same persons were again appointed on 14 May 1799 to take a new inventory for the distribution of the remainder which on 28 October 1799 was valued $933.34 and was set off in whole to Amos Foster, the oldest son. Amos was ordered to pay $84.554/11 apiece to each of his brothers and sisters, viz., William, Nathan, Jessaniah, Stephen, Hannah, Elizabeth, Clarissa, Alice, Orpah, and Susanna. References
