Personal History
Amos Foster, sometimes Jr., (3rd,) first son of Amos Foster and Hannah (Merrill), was born 23 May 1753, in Tewksbury, Province of Massachusetts Bay.[1][2] He died 4 October 1835, in the same place, in Massachusetts, and was buried in the South Tewksbury Cemetery.[3]
Amos Foster Jr. and Beulah Horsley (or Hosley) were married 15 February 1776, in Tewksbury. The town records of Tewksbury list the birth of their only child, Beulah.
Amos Foster Jr. and Elisabeth Kittridge were married 23 October 1781, in Tewksbury. The town records of Tewksbury list the births of their children, Elisabeth, Amos, Hannah, Zepheniah, and Enoch.
Amos inherited his father's real estate in 1799, and he was ordered to pay out equal amounts to his siblings so that each person received one eleventh of their father's estate.
In his will dated 25 June 1822,[4] Amos Foster, of Tewksbury, County of Middlesex, Massachusetts, yeoman, bequeathed $5 each to his daughters Elisabeth Blanchard and Hannah Griffin and his son Enoch Foster. He appointed his sons Amos Foster Jr. and Zephaniah K. Foster joint executors and bequeathed to them all lands and buildings to be divided equally. The will was read to the heirs 7 October 1835, and presented to the probate court of Middlesex Co. by the executors 10 November 1835. The executors Amos Foster and Zephaniah K. Foster, along with Samuel Thompson and Zephaniah Clark Jr., all of Tewksbury, yeomen, signed a bond in the amount of $20,000. On 6 February 1836, the executors and John Richardson of Billerica, yeoman, took an inventory of the estate. The real estate, including a homestead of about 80 acres and additional lots of about 10.5 acres, was valued at $2358, and the sum total of other items was $124.50.
