Highly Respected Tuscola Woman Dies at Home - Mrs. Amanda Teeter, wife of C. A. Teeter, aged 74 years, died at the family home Friday evening.
Funeral services ere held from the Church of Christ, of which the deceased had long been a member, Monday afternoon at two o'clock, with the pastor, the Reverend Roby Orahood, officiating. Burial was in the Tuscola cemetery, with Mortician J. C. Waddington in charge.
Casket bearers were H. Ray Warren, O. L. Parker, W. H. Fry, E. E. Murphey, Wilmer Murphey and Wilbur Ellis with the flowers in charge of Virginia Day, Helen Stankard, Dorothy Morris, Jane Morris, Maurine Teeter and Bernice Teeter.
The deceased was born in Clarke county, Ohio, November 11, 1857, being at the time of her death 74 years, one month and seven days of age. She was the daughter of William and Ama Oswald, and was the last surviving member of a family of six children born to that union.
On December 14, 1882, the deceased was united in marriage to C. A. Teeter. To this union six children were born, three sons and three daughters, who, together with the father are left to mourn the departure of a faithful wife and a loving and sacrificing mother. The children are: Homer L., Bruce and Ralph, all of this city; Mrs. Minnie Overman and Mrs. Maude Ingram, both of Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Lida Stunkard of Philo. All were present at the funeral services and burial of the mother.
Mr. and Mrs. Teter came to Tuscola a number of years ago and since living here Mrs. Teeter made many warm friends, who, with the grief-stricken husband and children and other relatives, will regret the passing of this good woman. She was a member of the Church of Christ and went whenever her health would permit, attended the services and took an active part in the church affairs.
For the past ten years the deceased had been in declining health and last July suffered an attack which for a time was feared to be fatal. She rallied and up until Monday proceeding her death, seemed to be improving. At this time another attack seized her which her already weakened condition was unable to withstand.
A Tribute
The following poem, written as a tribute to the late Mrs. C. A. Teeters of this city, is from the pen of Miss Minnie Lamb, a former resident of Tuscola and a neighbor of the deceased. The first letter in each line, when placed together, spell the name, "Mrs. Amanda Teeters."
Memories of a goodly neighbor
Really linger at this time,
Such a life of worthy labor
Always leaves some near repine.
Mrs. Teeters was e're willing
And did aid a neighbors strife
Nor did shirk her lot. Well filling,
Duties as a mother-wife.
A long battle lay before her,
Toward the goal did seem her need, Even tho would ills occur,
Ever seemed she, wisdom heed,
Truly Heaven did seem the goal
Even may she rest within
Rest is promised to the soul
Soon as it life's Battles win.
- Minnie Lamb.
