C.A. Teeter, 84, Dies Monday -
Last Rites for Long Time Local Resident Being Held Today (April 27, 193
Calvin A. Teeter, prominent and highly respected resident of Tuscola, for over half a century, died at his home on North Court Street at 8:30pm Monday. Death was caused by pneumonia which followed a slight cold which Mr. Teeter had contracted but a week before his demise. Prior to his final illness he had enjoyed remarkably good health for one of his advanced age of 84 years. The deceased was born at Fairfield Iowa on January 12, 1852, the eldest son of Levi K. and Fanny Teeter. While still a child the family removed to Indiana where they lived near Newcastle until they came to Douglas county in 1878. For a time, Mr. Teeter engaged in farming and conducting one of the earliest threshing outfits. In 1883 the family moved to Tuscola where the father followed the occupation of carpenter and machinist until his retirement several years ago.
On December 14, 1883, he was united in marriage with Miss Amanda Oswald and to them were born six children, all of whom are living. They are three sons, Homer l., Bruce E., and Ralph L. all of Tuscola, and three daughters, Mrs. Minnie Overman, Detroit; Mrs. Maude Ingram, Detroit, and Mrs. Lida Stunkard, Philo. The wife and mother passed away on December 18, 1931.
Mr. Teeter was proceeded in death by his two brothers and one sister. They were George S., Lemar, Mo., Malinda A., Streator and Samuel L., St. Louis.
Funeral services are being held at 2:00 PM today (Thursday) from the Church of Christ of Tuscola of which Mr. Teeter had been a member for many years. The services are in charge of the Rev. Roby Orahood, former pastor of the local church who now lives in Bethany. Interment will be in the Tuscola cemetery under the supervision of the Waddington Service.
The singing for the service is by Mrs. M. E. Lollar and Mrs. Fred Cooch, with Mrs. Fred Thornsbrue as their accompanist.
Pall bearers are Elmer E. Murphey, H. Ray Warren, Wilbur Ellis, Fred B. Cooch, John Colwell and W. A. Fullerton.
Ladies in charge of the flowers are Mrs. Elmer Murphey, Mrs. Mattie Murphey, Mrs. W. H. Fry, Mrs. J. W. Moody, Mrs. Hadan Shouse and Mrs. E. Gere.
