The last Will & Testament of Alexander Grant. Proved & recorded September 18th 1834.
In the name of God amen. I Alexander Grant of Stamford in the County of Delaware and State of New York, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life, and being of sound mind and memory, blessed be almighty God for the same do make and publish this my last will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say.
First - I give and bequeath to my grand son Alexander Grant, son of my son John A. Grant all that messuage or tenement situated in Walton in said County of Delaware containing one hundred and fourteen acres - Also, I give and bequeath my Grand son Alexander all my personal estate - I also give and bequeath my son Alexander T. Grant the sum of one dollar - I also give and bequeath to my son Robert Grant, the sum of one dollar - I also give and bequeath to my son John A. Grant, the sum of one dollar. I also give and bequeath to my Daughters Fanny, Elspeth, Gennet, one dollar each, and I hereby appoint Duncan A. Grant, sole executor of this my last will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand seal this thirtieth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred & thirty one.

Note: See S4... the purchase of land in the Town of Middletown, may have been some of the legacy for his children, since a few are found residing there after their father's death. Also this may explain the $1 gifts to each child in his will, and grant of his personal estate to grandson, Alexander Grant.

"Alexander Grant Jr of Stamford, Delaware County, NY, farmer, on June 16, 1806, purchased from Cornelia Cains, wife of George Cains, late Cornelia Verplanck of New York City, executrix and John Johnston of Dutchess County, executor of the last will of Julian Verplanck, Esquire, deceased, by Ebenezer Foote of Delhi, their attorney, land in the town of Middletown, Great Lot 39, lot 66, survey by John Burr, 160 acres. Witnesses Isaac Hathaway and Frederick P Foote. Recorded June 16, 1806. Pages 258-262."

- To distinguish him from the several Alexander Grants in Delaware Co., NY, he was called 'left-handed Sandy', because he played the violin left-handed. The "Jr." designation may have been adopted to distinguish him from 2 other Alexander Grant's found in Delaware County records in the same time period.
