Biography

James A.Grant was Captain of the Old Plaid Infantry of the 87th Regiment of the State of New York. The company headquarters were in Hobart. Most of the men were of Scottish birth. Their dress was plaid coat and white pantaloons, with the usual infantry rifle of the time. It is said that Captain Grant was proud, precise and handsome.
