ABL's date of birth is recorded in his father's family bible; see Henry Carlton Lindsey, THE MARK LINDSEY HERITAGE (Brownwood, TX, 1982), p. 66.

1920 census, Red River Psh., ward 2, p. 43, ED 121 (109/112, 26 Jan.). ABL is 30, a farmer, b. LA, parents b. LA. Wife Gracie is 25, b. LA, parents b. LA. In the house are Onetha, 5, Aaron, 3 years and 1 month, Mary L., 2 years and 2 months, and Jefferson D., 8 months.

According to Henry Carlton Lindsey, ABL was a successful farmer and leader in the public school system of Red River Psh., who served as a member of the parish school board, and for one term as president of the school board. After the death of wife Gracie Adkins in childbirth, he remarried to Sue Willa Dupree, having more children by her.

I have a copy of a 29 Aug. 1959 COUSHATTA CITIZEN article in which ABL announced his candidacy for school board president. The article notes that ABL was a native of Red River Psh., and that his grandfather had moved to the parish in Aug. 1871 and had fathered 12 children. It also notes that ABL's father was b. in ward 2 of the parish, now ward 7. According to the article, ABL was serving his second term on the school board of ward 2.

Mary Lou Lindsey Prothro, "The Lindseys of Red River Psh.," in Red River Psh. Heritage Soc., RED RIVER PARISH, OUR HERITAGE (Bossier City: Everett, 1989), p. 308, says that ABL was on the parish school board from 1948-60, serivng as president the last four years. She says that during his tenure, he got the first gym for the Martin High School, the first lighted athletic field, and new fixtures for the classrooms.

I can recall Uncle Bloomer from Lindsey family reunions in Red River Psh., as well as from visits to his home when I was a child. He was a tall, spare man who did not show much emotion, but spoke with deliberation and in a low-key tone of voice. MARK LINDSEY HERITAGE has a picture of him and wife Gracie with daughter Onetha taken abt. 1916 (p. 81).

Unless otherwise noted, all information I have recorded about this family is from MARK LINDSEY HERITAGE, pp. 80-4.
