White, McLung, Chitwood, Cowan

to learn that the White family first settled in Albamarle County, VA. John White was the grandfather of Martha White that married James Chitwood. The White family appears to have grown very large very quicky and so the same given names make it difficult to untangle them.

to get some background information on the Chitwood family. James Chitwood, early settler of Southwest Virginia, was the father of Pleasant Chitwood that married into the Cowan line. James Chitwood was a prominent figure in the South Carolina militia during the Revolution.
