[edit] NotesFrom Natalie Cowan, November 2013, Personal Communication. John and Sarah Mitchell's marriage can be found in a list of marriages entered in the Providence city records. Smithfield, Glocester, Central Falls, Foster, Chepatchet, Scituate etc were all Providence, and split off into smaller and smaller units throughout the years. Samuel Wilkinson Justice of the Peace of Smithfield entered a list of marriages he had performed in the Providence Town Book, FHL microfilm 915069. John purchased land in Smithfield a few months later, and his list of children can be found in LDS 959589. The youngest brother, Benjamin, married, but had no children. (I've seen a will on microfilm). John is described as a tailor in some land transactions. He purchased/exchanged land in Smithfield for property in Glocester, and transactions with his sons followed through the years. These families appear in census, land, freemen, military records, etc. My husband's ancestor John b. 1724/5 was identified as John Jr when he m. Mary Ballou. He had a son John, b. 1762. James had a son John b. 1754 often referred to as Ensign John (who had a John b, 1784).
