1. JOHANNES2 STINECIPHER (JOHANN1 STEINSEIFER) was born 06 Jul 1698 in Eisenfeld, Germany, and died Abt. 1757 in Culpepper County, Virginia. He married ELISABETH SCHUSTER Aug 1723 in Germany, daughter of HEINRICH SHUSTER and ELSA UTSCH. She was born 1705 in Germany, and died 1754 in Madison County, Virginia. Notes for JOHANNES STINECIPHER: From "The Stonecipher Tree", by Mary Howe Underwood, pub. 1984: The first German settlers came to Culpeper County, VA in 1714 under the protection of Governor Spotswood to work his ore mines. (note: this area in Culpeper County, VA was refered to as "the Germanna Colony") ... It was to this section of Culpeper County that John Stonecipher (b. 1695) brought his family in 1738. They left Freudenberg, Nassau-Siegen in March 1738. They sailed on the boat "Patience", from South Hampton, England on May 8, 1738. The Stonecipher's and other German settlers, unlike their English breathren, grew little tobacco, preferring to grow cabbage, corn, wheat and cattle to barter or to sell. They farmed their land to produce the food to make them self-sustaining within their own church-centered community. God was the center of their lives and so the church was the center of their activities. They chose good soil and laid out their farms around the church. They pretty will kept to themselves in Culpeper County as they were later to do in North Carolina. As a rule they even traded and married within their own settlement.

He was the third son of Johann Steinseifer (ca1662-1704) and Anna Gehla Grebe (1664-1730). On 3 August 1723 he married Elisabeth Schuster (b. 1705) daughter of Henrich Schuster of Eisern, Germany. They lived in Eisern and had nine children whose christenings are recorded in the church books of the parish of Rödgen. 1. Johannes Henrich 1 Oct 1724 d. 1816 in NC 2. Beginning as early as 1738 several other members of the Steinseifer family immigrated to America. Johannes Steinseifer and his family settled in Virginia on land adjacent to that of Johann Heinrich Hoffmann. Johann Heinrich Hoffman is the son of Johannes Hoffmann and Gertrud Reichmann. Like Steinseifer's children, the christening of Johann Heinrich Hoffman on 11 Mar 1708 is recorded in the records of the parish of Rödgen.
Will of John Stinesyfer, dated 2 April 1754 Culpeper County, Virginia and Parish of Brumfield. I lend to my beloved wife Elezeberth Stinesyfer dureing her natural life my tract of land whereon I now live and moveble estate real and personnal.
I give to my son John Stinecypher Elder fifty acres of land joining Mitchell Smith and John Kains and Major William Roan (s/b Roane).
I give to my son Henerecus Stinecypher fifty acres of land adjoining John Kains, John Stinisyfer Elder and William Roan.
I give my son John Stinisypher Younger fifty acres of land adjoining John Kains, Henry Hofman, Henrecus Stinesyfer and William Roan.
I give my son Henry Stinesyfer fifty acres of land adjoining Henry Hoofman, Jacob Manspile, William Roan and John Stinesyfer Younger.
To my four sons and four daughters all my moveable estate to be equally devided.
I do appoint my loving wife Elezeberth Stinesyfer my exetres and my son John Stinesyfer Elder exetor.

Nicholas' son, Nicholas, Jr., married Susanna Yager, daughter of Godfrey Yager. Would like additional information on this family, I believe this Nicholas Schmidt/Smith MAY be the father of my ancestor Edward Schmidt/Smith, that married 1/Catherine Stump in Culpeper Co. in 1739, 2/Agnes Catharina Stinecipher/Stonecipher in 1757, and Catharine/Katharine Stonecipher in 1798. Edward's eldest son is named Nicholas, so I would like additional information on Nicholas, his wife and children (not known to this researcher) to find a possible link. Henricus lived his last days in Greene Co. TN. His son. Solomon, married Elizabeth Hawkins and their daughter, Temperance Stonecipher married Jesse Doty - my great-great grandfather. I do not have a date of death for Agnes Catharina. From your post, it appears that she died before 1798. Who was the Catharine Stonecipher that Edward Schmidt married after Agnes Catharine Stonecipher?
Notes for KATRINKA STONECIPHER: This Katrinka Stonecipher is more than likely the Catherine Stonecipher that married Edward Schmidt/Smith as his 3rd wife in 1798, in Carter County, TN. Although more research is necessary to conclusively establish the relationship, there appears to be few other "Catherine Stonecipher's" that were in the vicinity at that time. It is certainly not unheard of in those days for a husband to marry a younger sister of a previous wife that has passed away. Her sister, Agnes Catherina Stonecipher was Edward's second wife in 1757.
The will of Catherine Smith was transcribed from the original by Robert Tipton Nave, Archivest in the Tennessee State Library and Archives. This will was never recorded. LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF CATHERINE SMITH I, Catherine Smith, widow, of Carter County and the State of Tennessee, being of sound mind and memory, do make and ordain the following as my last Will and Testament, to wit: I Will that my body after my decease, be buried in decent Christian manner, and whatever expense may be incurred to be paid out of what wordly goods and property I am possessed. Being possessed of the following goods and property, to wit: one bay mare and cold and one yearlin colt, five milk cows and three calves and four yearlins, and a small stock of hogs, some household and kitchen furniture and owing no debts, I give and bequeath the whole absolutely and unconditionally to my beloved daughter, Nancy Heaton, to assist her in raising her children after the expense before named is paid and after I shall have deceased. In witness whereof I, the said, Catherine Smith, have hereunto set my hand and seal the fourteenth day of April A.D. 1832

From "Germanna History", notes: “John Clore, Junior, assignee (in 1777) of John Stansifer; 6 Dec 1769 - 12 Apr 1770; 22 acres on S. side of drs. of Pass Run or Strother’s Run & N. side of the doubletop Mt.; adj. Dr. Wallace, decd. CC - Michael Clore & John Clore, Junior. Surveyor - Richard Young.” John Stonecipher married the sister of John Clore, Jr. Probably, Michael Clore was the brother of John Clore.
