There is no marriage record for George Marlow and Edda Meadows in Knox County, Kentucky at the time they most likely married.[1] However, given Edda's experience in traveling to Campbell County, Tennessee two or three years earlier with Frances Alsop Meadows, widow of her father's cousin, it is likely that George and Edda did the same when they married.[2] Campbell County was just across the state boarder from where the Meadows family was living and was apparently closer than the Knox County, Kentucky court house. As well, to reach the To reach theKnox County, Kentucky meant crossing several ridges and valleys, while travel to Campbell County court house could be made following a natural route in the landscape. Unfortunately, marriage records for Campbell County, Tennessee do not begin until 1838.

Both Edda's and George's families were well established in Whitley County, Kentucky, living in the same general neighborhood. George's presumed parents, Thomas and Jerusha Asbury Marlow, remained in Whitley County, as did at least two of George's presumed sisters (Tabitha and Lucretia) and one brother. George and Edda would have known each other as children growing up.

There are many postings on the internet that state that George Marlow's first wife was an Elizabeth Terry, with the marriage taking place on 1 June 1815 in Wilson County, Tennessee, perhaps based on the extraction record of a George Marlow/Elizabeth Terry marriage in the IGI. However this is most likely the marriage of a different George Marlow, the one who appears in the 1820 Census for Maury County, Tennessee, along with a William Terry, most likely the Wm Terry who had married Betsey Marlow on 27 January 1812 in Wilson County, Tennessee.[3]

In 1820 the George Marlow who married Edda Meadows is almost certainly the George Marlow in Lawrence County, Indiana, living (based on County Court Records[4]) on property owned by Edda's father Isom Meadows. That George and Edda were married before November 1825 is documented by a deed of sale that Edda signed,[5] along with George, for property in Montgomery County, Indiana, where they were then living, having moved there at the same time as Edda's father.
