"The Hughes lawsuit dealt with a 200a tract of land which Hughes had deeded to Thomas Daniel, dec'd (long after Richard Willis died, so no obligations for Richard). William was guardian for Thomas and Elizabeth Willis Daniel infant daughter Elizabeth and became responsible for tract....not sure but it seems the tract had not been paid for yet. Thomas, Elizabeth and William deaths were all very close." fide William Willis 5199.

09 May 1796 Deed Halifax Co., Virginia; Indenture between WILLIAM WILLIS, guardian of Elizabeth Daniel an infant and orphan of Thomas Daniel and ELIZABETH, his wife, decreased, of the one part and Joseph Hughes of the county of Halifax of the other part. Suit names the WILLIS heirs. Deed is for a tract in Halifax County on Dan River and is bounded by Faulkner’s line, Stephen Hughes, Joran’s line and Thomas Parker. Contains 200 acres. Witnessed by Thos Hughes, Wm Munford, Geo Craighead, T.A. Field and Jesse Monday. Recorded July 28, 1796. Ref: Halifax County, Virginia, Deed Book 16 (1793-1796), Page 646.

Jul 1796 Court Record Halifax Co., Virginia; An Indenture between WILLIAM WILLIS Guardian of Elizabeth Daniel infant orphan of Thomas Daniel and ELIZABETH his wife decreased on the one part and Joseph Hughes of the other par was proved by the oaths of three witnesses thereto subscribed to be their act and deed of the said WILLIS and ordered to be Recorded. Ref: Halifax County, Virginia; Pleas, Page 467.

May 1796 Court Record Halifax Co., Virginia; Joseph Hughes complainant against In Chancery, MARY WILLIS Administratrix of the goods and chattels rights and credits of WILLIAM WILLIS decreased and RICHARD, WILLIS, JOHN WILLIS, EDWARD WILLIS, STERLING WILLIS, DRURY WILLIS, THOMAS WILLIS, SHERWOOD WILLIS, William Hopwood and ANNE his wife, John Allgood and SARAH his wife and Elizabeth Daniel, and infant orphan of Thomas and ELIZABETH his wife also decreased. This cause came on to be heard on the Bill, answer and other exhibits. And by consent of Plaintiff and said MARY WILLIS and WILLIAM WILLIS, guardian of Elizabeth Daniel. And it appearing to the Court that the proclamation hath been duly made agreeable to a former order in this cause; and the Defendants ... having stood out all process of contempt, it is therefore ordered and adjudged and decreed that the Bill of the complainant be taken for consessed as to them and it is further ordered, do make and recuted unto the said Complainant a Deed of Conveyance in fee simple for the Tract of Land in the Bill mentioned upon the said complainant paying to the said MARY WILLIS Administratrix the amount of the two Bonds mentioned in said Bill and admitted in the said answer and that the complainant recover his costs by him in this behalf expended.
