Carolina Meadors in Census 1790-1810

Jason Meador and Elizabeth Stone came to the Carolinas about 1760, with 6 children, 4 sons (Lewis, Jason, Job and Thomas) and 2 daughters (Drucilla and Mariah). Because of the near lack of records*, many online trees for their descendants are heavy with undocumented guesswork and speculation which cannot be sorted out or verified using DNA (all but Mariah married children of Edward Moberley and his wife Susannah). The only records consistently available for all descendants living in the immediate area during the early years of the United States are Census records. It is hoped that putting all of the Census records in one place will help to sort individuals into more or less appropriate families and/or highlight areas where more research could potentially help.

* Anson County, North Carolina suffered a Courthouse fire in 1868. Nearly all marriage records were destroyed, but land records still exist, and at least some probate records. Unfortunately, wives seldom signed for the sale of their dower rights during this period, unlike many other colonies and early states.
