Problems with birth date
Various undocumented sources have given Pleasant a birth date of 1780 or 1790.[2][3]
The 1830 Census suggests that Pleasant was born sometime between 1800 and 1810.[6] If so, then he would have been born after Keziah's childbearing years and is more likely a grandson than a son.
That the census record may be in error is suggested by the fact that Thomas Meador sold land to Pleasant in 1816. This would suggest a birth date of 1795 or earlier, assuming that Pleasant was 21 years of age when he purchased the property. As well, Keziah referred to Pleasant as her son when she relinquished her dower rights in the land after Thomas' death. Thus, the undocumented sources claiming a 1790 birth date are probably correct.
Pleasant also appears on the 1820 tax list, suggesting that he was born by at least 1799 or 1800.
