Ancestry Public Member Trees includes data for two separate lines, both claiming a marriage between Andrew Cowan and Martha Evans. One line identifies this couple as living in Abbeville, SC, in from 1773 to about 1800, while the other line identifies the as living in Sevier and Jeffereson County, TN from about 1786-about 1820. While it is conceivable that these records refer to two separate couples with the same name, it seems likely that this is a confusion. There were, in fact, two Andrew Cowan's in these two areas. The Andrew Cowan of Abbeville, is consistently given the vita of 1742-1786. That Andrew Cowan is almost certainly Person:Andrew Cowan (32), who settled on Boonesborough Township in 1773, and is believed to have been an immigrant to America. That Andrew Cowan left a will which identifies his wife as "Ann", not Martha. [1] The Andrew Cowan of Sevier County (person:Andrew Cowan (22))is commonly identified as the son of David Cowan <1739-1811, and as being born 1768. This would be too late for him to be the same person as Andrew Cowan of Abbeville.
