WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded laidler20130322.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Clareton, Yorkshire [9 January 2014]

Hi

Your addition or revision for Clareton was advised to me because I am trying to update the geographical references for places in Yorkshire.

I hope you have been absolutely sure you are speaking of "Clareton" as the birthplace of Lavinia Lupton. There are a good half dozen places named "Carleton" or "Carlton" in Yorkshire. However, Google Earth still has Clareton marked and the location matches up with what 19th-century gazetteer information I could find for it.

The area around Clareton was in the West Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. It is now in the Harrogate District of North Yorkshire. Leathley, where her parents were married, is in the same general area, but it is far from being the next village.

I find GENUKI and Vision of Britain to be very helpful in sorting out 19th-century places, but they both take some getting used to in the way they present their material.

I have now obtained a certified copy of the birth entry for Lavinia Lupton, confirming that her birthplace was Clareton in the Registration District of Great Ouseburn, Sub-district Whixley.--Walkal 03:33, 9 January 2014 (UTC)
