haaland 7 generations with out living.ged [15 March 2010]

Hello, I am a volunteer admin here at WeRelate. I noticed that your haaland 7 generations with out living gedcom has been uploaded. The system is new and might be a little confusing at first. Do you need any help with the review process? If you were not aware of the review process, click on this link to go to review page. You can come and go as you have time.

WeRelate is an active community of genealogists staffed by volunteers. Our mission is help people to collaborate on common ancestors. The review process will connect you with other genealogists researching common ancestors. Your gedcom cannot be uploaded until you have checked the warnings and possible matches with common ancestors. The warnings will tell you if someone died before they married/were born, etc. You can correct the page in the lower window by clicking on the edit link. You must look at every warning and every suggested match. You need to read through the warnings and review the suggested family matches. For each family match, please mark it as a match or not a match.

Let me know if you need help getting started. You should be aware that Gedcoms left unreviewed/uploaded will be deleted after ten days. Thank you, --Jennifer (JBS66) 07:23, 15 March 2010 (EDT)

Final Notice - You must review your gedcom [22 March 2010]

I don't know if you are aware that all gedcom uploads must be reviewed before the pages are uploaded. The system will analyze your gedcom and suggest matches with existing pages so you can connect with your cousins. It will also point out data issues, like when someone died before their child was born. Sometimes, there is nothing wrong with the data, like a child born before the wedding or an old man fathering a child. I have a 71 year old who fathered his 21st child. You don't have to change data, just look at the warning. You can choose to correct the mistakes in the lower window by clicking on edit, or make the corrections to the pages at your leisure. If you need help, please feel free to contact me. You uploaded your gedcom on March 7. You can process it at the link above.

I usually delete unprocessed gedcoms that have been left in the queue for more than 10 days. I will need to delete your gedcom if it is not processed by March 26. Please contact me in the next few days if you are working on it and need more time. :) --Judy (jlanoux) 11:26, 22 March 2010 (EDT) (WeRelate volunteer)

Images from Find A Grave [7 April 2011]

Hi! I'm a volunteer administrator here on WeRelate. I noticed that you added a photo from Find A Grave. Those photos are not public domain. The best way to include those types of images is have a link to the memorial page. For example, on the page for Charles Hilderbrand, you could enter this in the text area: Photo of Charles' tombstone on [http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=57660768& FindAGrave.com]. The link would look like this:

Thanks! I am still learning to navigate in werelate. Really, I had no idea that you and others were trying to help me correct errors. I have a list of messages to go through!  :o) I made the suggested changes and removed the photo. Thanks again. Jennifer--Theliederacademy 08:13, 7 April 2011 (EDT)

That's one of the great things about WeRelate -- people helping each other. If you ever have any questions, feel free to ask! -- Amy (Ajcrow) 16:18, 7 April 2011 (EDT)

Rindlisbacher ancestry [7 April 2011]

As a Swiss resident an doing research in the Canton Berne since 40 years, I think something with the Rindlisbacher ancestry got wrong.

  • Person:Jakob Jakob (1) has children called Rindlisbacher and a father called Schüpbach. This needs a special check.
  • Elsbeth Schüpbach, the mother of his presumed father married on the given date Johannes (Hans) Rindlisbacher and not Hans Schüpbach.
  • I don't understand this mix of familynames, it seems not to be absolutely wrong, but there is a bit of a mixup with the names.--Klaas (Ekjansen) 05:07, 7 April 2011 (EDT)

Thank you so much for your edit. I am going through my family tree on werelate.org to correct errors. The branch on Switzerland is very difficult for me to do at this moment. I currently have no way of verifying or correcting the information so I may just delete seems to be very wrong ~ like what you brought to my attention. Is Switzerland Genealogy on-line? My great grand-father was from Switzerland. I would love to learn more about him and his family and way of life! Thank you. My personal email is theliederacademy@yahoo.com if you'd like to connect with me. Jennifer Lieder--Theliederacademy 08:03, 7 April 2011 (EDT)

Duplicates? [20 April 2011]

Hello, I noticed that you created new family pages for Family:Fred Elliot and Ceila Elliott (1), Family:Unknown and Ceila Elliott (1), Family:Fred Elliot and Unknown (2), and Family:Fred Elliot and Unknown (1). It appears the last three may be inadvertent duplicates. If they are, you can delete them by clicking on More>Delete from the menu on the left. --Jennifer (JBS66) 13:08, 20 April 2011 (EDT)

Family: James Trusler and Susannah Wilson [13 July 2011]

Hello, I noticed that on one of your families James Trusler and Susannah Wilson, you have two "daughters" listed that have different surnames than either of the parents. One of them is Jane Ross, who married John Adair. It appears that these two daughters do not belong with this family (unless you have information/sources to the contrary). For now, I've taken Jane Ross and unlinked her to this family (pending your information), and updated her birthdate per IGI and FamilyTreeMaker, and added additional information for the Adair family from Augusta County, Virginia. If the other daughter listed, Mary Gilbert, is not of the parents listed, please unlink her from these parents also, and be sure not to link un-related persons to families on WeRelate.

Thanks for your understanding and help.

Best regards,

Jim:)

Hi Jennifer, here's the form letter. Let me know if you need help.

Hello, I am a volunteer admin and it's my job to help people learn the system. You asked for help licensing your images. I can't license your images but I can give your guidance. There are numerous licensing options, but most images fall into one of these categories:

  • Original published in US before 1923
  • Low resolution copy of an historical photograph. (When you reduce the image before upload, the resolution is reduced.)
  • Snippet of historical document
  • Work of US government--Public domain
  • If you took the picture, select the CC-BY-SA
  • If you know the photographer, get written permission.

Hope this helps. Please be aware that images left in the "Help needed" category for longer than two weeks will be deleted. If you have any more question please leave me a message. :)--sq 13:36, 23 September 2011 (EDT)

Invitation to Discussions on Norwegian Data Entry Standards [11 December 2013]

As a recent contributor of Norwegian ancestry to WeRelate, I invite you to participate in two discussions. One is to set a convention for entering Norwegian names (see topic 8.2 Norwegian Names on WeRelate). The other is to set a standard for Norwegian place names. I look forward to anything you can contribute to either discussion. Thanks.--DataAnalyst 01:12, 11 December 2013 (UTC)
