Naming conventions [6 July 2011]

Hello, I am a volunteer admin here at WeRelate. I noticed that you are renaming and creating pages with titles that contain Jr. and alternate name spellings. Please review our naming conventions here. Person pages are titled with Firstname Lastname only. All other information (including alternate name spellings) can be placed in the name fields from within the edit screen. Please review your contributions here and rename any pages to remove the extraneous information. Let me know if you have any questions, thank you,--Jennifer (JBS66) 15:42, 6 July 2011 (EDT)

Information on Bish/Lohr [9 July 2011]

Hello, I noticed the changes that you made to the Bish family. The additions to this family were made per IGI, and appear fairly credible. I've reverted some of your changes, and we would ask that instead of changing families and erasing information of others that you start a conversation on the talk page and compare sources with other researchers that have already taken time to add their information to person and family pages.

If you have evidence/sources to the contrary, please feel free to add them to their person pages for others to see, so they can decide which sources may be correct.

Thanks much,

Jim

Deljim,

I have done first hand research in Armstrong, Clarion, Jefferson and Elk Co., PA on the Bish family for over 18 years and I can tell you that the changes I made were correct. The maiden name of Lohr for Adam Bish, Sr's wife Elizabeth Catherine came from an extremely disreputable source, was discussed by a core group of Bish researchers on the Rootsweb mailing list, and finally discarded as there was no proof. There is not one single source document that exists out there that gives her maiden name as Lohr. Unfortunately, after our discussion, the name leaked out there and now I find it all over the web without any documentation to support. Equally unfortunate is the fact that people simply snarf up unproven research and pass it on to others. I know you want the information on werelate.com to be correct.--Keystonecrossroads 17:56, 9 July 2011 (EDT)

As a further note, the information on the IGI database on the LDS website is simply information that has been submitted by other researchers, and much of it is what they have found on the web. Without the source documents listed, this is of no more value to other researchers than information printed without sources in a book.--Keystonecrossroads 17:59, 9 July 2011 (EDT)

Further discussion on the Bish information that was given to us by a disreputable source:

From: Jeff Bish Subject: [BISH] Johann Adam Bisch Date: Sat, 14 Jul 2001 12:36:36 EDT

Dear List ; I've seen the postings of Sherry and Rick on the spelling and pronunciation of the surname in the recent days and thought I'ld throw my two cents in.

Adam Bish Sr. Probate files pretty clearly show that Adam Jr. was signing his name "Bisch" in the 1792 timeframe. The old style script "s" in the document looks much like a cursive "t" and can account for a misread of "Bitch". I have this signature scanned where Adam Jr. signed it and can email the translation to those interested.

I think it is also likely the tax records of York county and Pennsylvania Archives which I've only seen in type form are misinterpretations, misspellings, of the surname and sometimes may have been exagerated by mispronunciations. I think this might account for the apparent surname showing up as Pitsch, Pietsch, Bitsch, Bisch in the Maryland german church record translations.

In the church records of Nieder-Saulheim I've seen both "Bisch" and "Busch" (with umlaut) for Johann Adam Bisch. However, this is not the York County Adam Bisch Sr. as the dates don't seem to match up. I also have not yet made a connection with the York County Adam Sr. and Blankenloch/Hamm/Saulheim area of Germany although the area does look promising.

I think Krismarie's research in the Prueschdorf area of Alsace is also promising although I haven't seen a connection to Frederick or Adam Sr. yet.

The thought of an "Abram" being the oldest ancestor seems to have originated with my greataunt Grace Sara Bish who believed the family was from near Strausbourg in the mid 1750's. Believe me, I wish I could prove this but cannot so far.

I'ld also be careful assuming Adam Sr was married to an Elizabeth Catharine Loehr. True he was neighbor to a Loehr in York County and widowed an Elizabeth Catharine but the source telling us of the marriage in Germany also tells us the LDS film record of Neider Saulheim. There is no marriage record in Neider Saulheim after 5 months of looking where it is supposed to be. True, I did find a Johann Adam Bisch, a wife, and several children but I'm pretty confident he is not our Adam Sr.

I think we are somewhat closer and the path Kris is following is taking the next step. I just don't think we know with much certainty prior to Adam Sr. in York County and Frederick In Virginia.
