Next step: Review your GEDCOM [22 January 2012]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded moore-werelate.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Charles Dodson parentage [21 April 2012]

If that is the case that its unproven, should it be removed? I seem to remember that connecting Charles Dodson to that family was not only unlikely but disproven.--DMaxwell 15:06, 16 April 2012 (EDT)

I'm not clear about the process for removing portions of a entry or of condensing multiple entries for the same person (in this case Charles Dodson, Sr.). I'm looking for the protocol but have not encountered it yet and will need to post a question...--Jejones 15:16, 16 April 2012 (EDT)

Are there duplicates of Charles Dodson? Point them out to me and I will merge them. I also will also remove the parentage of him if I can find the source that shows it as disproved.--DMaxwell 15:21, 16 April 2012 (EDT)

I found 3 duplicates of Charles. All merged, but they are a bit of a mess at the moment.--DMaxwell 16:08, 16 April 2012 (EDT)

JeJones,

I was wondering if you have a source for Dodson ancestry (going back to Charles and perhaps several generations forward), ie a book or journal. I'd like to clean up the Dodson lines at least up to the final Dodson in my line, Martha Dodson who married Sampson McMullen in about 1830.--DMaxwell 16:14, 21 April 2012 (EDT)

There are several important works on the Dodson family with documentation for Charles Dodson, Sr. See web pages by Glenn Gore who has critically reviewed the research [[1]] [[2]]. See also his bibliography [[3]]

Currently, the foremost source for this family is:

Mrs. Sherman Williams. The Dodson (Dotson) Family of North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia: a History and Genealogy and Their Descendants Vol.1. 1988

Other work includes:

Ralph C. Jones. The Dodson Family Notebook, Vol. 1. 1972.

Rev. Silas Emmett Lucas, Jr. Supplement to the History of the Dodson-Dotson Family of Southwest Virginia. Southern Historical Press, 1966.

Thompson P. Ege. Dodson Genealogy, 1600-1907. Philadelphia, PA: Deemer & Jaisohn, 1908.--Jejones 16:52, 21 April 2012 (EDT)
