Wylie Dugger was born ca 1819/20 per age of 30 on the 1850 census, and age of 40 on the 1860 census. He was born in Tennessee, probably Sumner County. His name is spelled "Wiley" on almost every record I've found, but other researchers insist "Wylie" was his preferred spelling. I'm not sure what the source of that is.

It is generally thought that Wylie Dugger is a son of Dread Dugger and Millie Bruce, though I don't know if there is any irrefutable evidence for that. They also lived in Gallatin Co., IL so that fits. They lived in TN in 1820 when Wylie was born, so that fits. Their 1820 and 1830 census entries (Sumner Co., TN) show that they had a son his age. In 1840 (in Gallatin Co., IL) Dread was listed two houses from Wylie. In 1850 they were about 30 households apart, so not as close as before, but still in the same county. I think that Wylie is named as an heir in Dread's estate records, but I have not seen those myself, so I'm not sure. If so, that would make it clear that he is Dread's son.

None of the above proves Wylie is Dread's son, but circumstantially it points in that direction.

Wylie Dugger married Elizabeth --- sometime before 1840. A marriage record shows that on 10 (or 13) Mar 1837, Wiley Driggers married Elizabeth Yates in White Co., IL. This marriage has been read as Wiley "Dugger" by others. The official Illinois marriage database lists him as "Driggers."

Wylie was listed on the 1840 census in Gallatin Co., IL just two households from his probable father Dread Dugger.

They were still in Gallatin for the 1850 census. D. W. Dugger (Wylie's brother Doctor W. Dugger) was just a few houses away. There were several Bruce families nearby as well. They were probably related to his mother.
