Dread Dugger was born ca 1780/81 per his age of 69 on the 1850 census. That same record shows he was born in Virginia. If he is the son of John Dugger Surry as thought, then he was probably born in Dinwiddie Co., VA or perhaps in Brunswick Co., VA.

Some list his name as "Eldread" or "Eldred" Dugger, but his name never appears that way on any public records that have been found so far.

He isn't a proven child of John Dugger, Surry and Frances Dugger, but he did go to Sumner Co., TN when they did, and that seems to tie them together.

Dread Dugger married Millie Bruce before ca 1804 in Sumner Co., TN. (What is the proof of her maiden name?)

"Dred Duger" was listed on the 1809 Sumner Co., TN tax list.

Dread Dugger served in the War of 1812 in Col. John Coffee's Company under Captain Bym. (More details are needed on this subject.)

Dread Dugger was listed on the 1816 through 1820 tax lists in Sumner Co., TN. His name was spelled "Dred" on most of those.

Dread is listed on the 1820 census in Sumner Co., TN near his presumed brother James Dugger.
