WILLIAM A RECTOR was born in 1842 in Warren County, Kentucky.

William was a farmer.

The 1850 census shows William living with his parents in 2nd District, Warren County, Kentucky.

William moved with his parents to Barton County, Missouri in 1855.

The 1860 census shows William living with his parents in Newton Township, Barton County, Missouri.

William served during the Civil War in the army of the Confederate State of America. He enlisted as a private on September 18, 1862 in Barton County, Missouri by Captain Kile. He served in Company G, 6th Missouri Cavalry, Smith Regiment, Shelby Brigade, Price's Division. He participated in the actions at Cane Hill and Prairie Grove in 1862. In early 1863 he participated in Marmadukes First Raid into Missouri. He drove a wagon team for the Commissary officer. In October 1863 he participated in Shelby's raid into Missouri. He was captured and taken prisoner in Saline County, Missouri on October 13, 1863. Circumstances of his capture are not known at present. He is shown on the roll of prisoners received at Gratiot Street Prison, St. Louis, Missouri on October 18, 1863. He was transferred to Rock Island, Illinois on January 19, 1864. On March 18, 1864 he took the oath of allegiance and went home stating that he was tired of the war.

William married SARAH C OWENS on October 3, 1867 in Barton County, Missouri.

On October 12, 1869, James L Rector and his wife deeded land to William A Rector in Section 26, Township 33, Range 29, Barton County, Missouri.

The 1870 census shows William living with his family in Newton Township, Barton County, Missouri. He owned 33 acres of improved land and 37 acres of other unimproved land. The value of his farm was $600.00. The value of his farming implements and machinery was $15.00. He owned 2 horses, 2 milch cows, 10 sheep, and 3 swine. The value of his livestock was $185.00. His farm produced 35 bushels of winter wheat, 500 bushels of Indian corn, 100 pounds of tobacco, 25 pounds of butter, 25 pounds of wool, 23 bushels of Irish potatoes, 100 pounds of butter, 2 tons of hay, $32.00 value of animals slaughtered, and $400.00 value of all farm produced.

On December 20, 1872, Jemima Rector deeded land to William A Rector in Section 35, Township 33, Range 29, Barton County, Missouri.

On March 5, 1875, William A Rector and his wife deeded land to Jarret Medlin in Section 26, Township 33, Range 29, Barton County, Missouri.

On September 5, 1876, William A Rector and his wife deeded land to George More in Section 26, Township 33, Range 29, Barton County, Missouri.

The 1880 census shows William living with his family in Doylesport Township, Barton County, Missouri. He owned 80 acres of tilled improved land and 6 acres of permanent meadows improved land. The value of his farm was $1,000.00. The cash value of his farming implements and machinery was $30.00. The cash value of his live stock was $550.00. The cost of building and repairing fence in 1879 was $150.00. The cash value of all farm produced was $150.00. He owned 2 horses, 13 milch cows, 18 other cattle, 9 calves dropped, 2 living calves sold, 400 pounds of butter, 1 swine, 25 barn yard poultry, 30 other poultry, 250 eggs produced in 1879,60 acres of Indian corn producing 900 bushels of Indian corn.

On February 15, 1884, William A Rector deeded land to Andrew Schrock in Section 31, Township 33, Range 29, Barton County, Missouri.

The 1910 census shows William living in Mesa County, Colorado.

The 1920 census shows William living in Fruita Township, Mesa County, Colorado.
