William Parsons was baptised on 2nd March 1777 at Kimpton in Hertfordshire, son of Thomas Parsons and Sarah Robotom. His mother died when he was about two years old.

On 5th March 1810, aged 33, he married Elizabeth Parsons at Kimpton. Although they shared the same surname, no obvious connection between their families has yet been found. They went on to have five children baptised at Kimpton between 1810 and 1821. William's father died in 1828, with his burial noting that he had lived at Rye End, a hamlet which straddles the border of Kimpton and the neighbouring parish of Knebworth.

William's wife Elizabeth died in 1837, aged 53.

The 1841 and 1851 censuses both find William living with his daughters in the part of Rye End which was in Knebworth parish, and working as a carpenter.

William died in 1855, aged 78. He was buried at Kimpton on 16th August 1855, although his abode was recorded as "Rye End, Knebworth".
