Earlene found a hand written note, no envelope, no name just a list; when she was cleaning up Mother's house after she went into the nursing home. By comparing the handwriting and the paper and spelling I think the note was written by their Mother , Louiza Penitas (Netie) CONN.

You ask abour Uncle Tyre's Wife, he married Lilly Crawford. I will give you a list of his children, but I cannot give you their age. I'll contact Veanie and try to find that information. (1) Edgar Nix 1906 b. Moodys Chapel, died I belive about one year of age. (2) Viola, Married John Seay. Lived in Altoona about mid thirtys. One child Lewis Earl, moved to California, She moved back to some where around Valley Head, where she died. I do not know the date of her death. I think she was buried at White Hall Cemetery, Highway 11. (3) Oscar Nix, Married Ovlie Scott, Fort Payne. (I do not know anything abour his children). (4) Eunice Married Marion Payne. They had several children. I remember the girl, Carolyn, and I think her husband was or is the Mayor of Fort Payne. They had twin boys - one was a mougoloide which was so unfortunate, after the parents died I think he lives with a brother. (5) Vernie married Britt Bray (he is deceased). They had 3 children. I do not know the children. One of the girls brought Vernie to my house once. She was a beautiful girl. This girl was married to a Patterson, I do not know much about them at all. One of the boys taught school in Attalla I think at one time.

William Tyre Nix 30 Jun 1882 White Not Stated, De Kalb, AL

William Tyre was the third son of Harrison Jennings Nix and Louiza Penitas (Netie) Conn. He was the grandson of Daniel, and the great grandson of Jennings. The 1900 census shows him at home with his mother listed as head of the family after his father had died in 1898. But by 1910 he is married with three children of his own. He married Lillian Frances (Fannie) Crawford, and they had a total of five children two sons and three daughters. They moved around in North Alabama, looking I suppose for good, but cheap farming land. They settled at last near Fort Payne area of DeKalb County, and he died there in 1976. I met Uncle Tyre only once. It was during the early part of World War II and my father had purchased a second hand auto, but it was new to us. One Sunday afternoon my parents decided to drive to Fort Payne, to visit. We arrived in the middle of the afternoon, 3:30 or 4: 00 o'clock . Uncle Tyre (actually my great uncle) had a cold and was in bed. The impression it left on me was that he was on his death bed. I put this in a query on the Nix Mail List and received a reply from a cousin saying that I had most of the details correct, but that Tyre was her great grandfather and did not die for another 35 years! So much for having personal first hand genealogy knowledge. When he completed the registration card, 12 September 1918, he was living in Henaer, a small town in DeKalb County. He was 36 and gave no excuse for avoiding the draft. He was farming at that time as he did all his life. His physical features are listed as; Height - Medium, Build - Medium, Eyes - Blue, and Hair Dark, with no disabilities.
