  • 1 December 1766 - Wm. Minter bought land from Mathew Floyd and wife Sarah on North side of Broad River about 5-6 miles from the mouth of creek for 50 # S.C. money. This same land was granted to Mathew Floyd on 11-16-1764.
  • 22 January 1767 - Wm. Minter sold the same above land to Hezikiah Alexander of Newcastle PA. for 80# N.C. money. (Not signed by wife Martha Minter).
  • 9 April 1768 - Wm. Minter sold land (9-23-1766 purchase above) to James Miles for 100 #S.C. Money. (Signed by wife Martha Minter).
  • 9 April 1768 - Wm. Minter bought 100 ac. land on Suzybole Branch of Turkey Creek form David Reed and wife Rebecca for 100 #, Same land granted to David Reed 4-22-1767 (witnessed James Miles) platted 4-10-1766, Chain Bearer Wm. Minter, Surveyer, John Minter.
  • 3 October 1768 - Wm. Minter bought 100 ac. land on Suzybole Branch of Turkey Creek bounded on the East by lands of Wm. Minter and originally granted to Barber[?] Cooper on 9-12-1768, signed by J. Hillhouse. Land recorded on 10-9 1771.
  • 21 November 1771 - Wm. Minter bought 150 ac. land on Mill Branch of Turkey Creek being "6 feet wide and 5 inches deep", Craven County, St. Marks Parish, originally granted to David Hart 8-22-1771. Platted 2-20-1770.

Will Transcript

In the Name of God, Amen: I William Minter of the State of S. Carolina and District of York being of sound mind and having perfect senses and memory do make and ordain this my last Will & Testament and do give and dispose of my whole Estate in the following manner and form- Imprimis it is my desire that all my just debts be first of all paid-
I then give unto my beloved Wife Martha Minter the Plantation whereon I now live during her life or while she remains a widow-
I also give unto her our Feather bed and its' furniture two Cows & Calves and a reasonable part of the plantation utensils and furniture that is in the dwelling house and kitchen-
Item, I give unto my son John Minter of Chester District the tract of land whereon he now lives containing two hundred acres for him and his heirs to enjoy forever- :Item, I give unto my son William Minter one hundred acres of land to be taken off the tract I now live on and also whatever quantity of land may be included by continuing the line that runs off the said one hundred acres in a straight direction until it strikes Thomas Wilson's line which will be out of another survey bearing date the seventh day of December One thousand Seven hundred and Ninety one yet this is with the following conditions that the said Wm. Minter pay unto his brother Joseph Minter fifty dollars-
Item, I give unto my two sons Josiah and Jacob Minter my tract of land in the Chester District whereon my Grist mills are- I also give onto them my Cotton machine and still with their appurtenances The Land as… whole to be divided equally between them both-
Item, I give unto my daughter Mary Moor five pounds-
Item, I give unto my son Joseph Minter five pounds-
Item, I give unto my daughter Sarah Minter Three hundred dollars and one Horse & saddle-
Item I give unto my son Jonathan Minter at the death or marriage of his mother the plantation whereon I now live-
Item, It is my desire that my Estate not heretofore given and bequeathed be sold and after my just debts are paid and my daughter Sarah Minter receives the three hundred dollars above mentioned that the residue be equally divided among the children-
And I do hereby nominate and appoint my wife Martha Minter Executrix and my sons John and Josiah Minter executors of this my last Will and Testament- Providing and disannulling all Wills by me heretofore made, publishing, pronouncing and declaring this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament in presence of the subscribing witnesses and have hereunto set my hand & seal this twenty sixth day of September in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight hundred and Seven.

Guardianship Records

Following is an exact transcription of the original images of the Guardianship Paper for William Minter at age 10 + years. By John B. Minter- 2005.
Know all men by these presents that we John Phillips and Ludy Piles are held & firmly bound unto Thomas Waring, Benjamin Winslow, James Garnett, Francis Smith and William Roan Gent. Justices of the peace for the County of Essex and their heirs and Successors in the sum of five hundred pounds Sterling to which payment well and truly to be made we bind our selves our heirs survivors and administrators Joyntly and severally firmly by these presents Witness our hands and seals this 16th day of March anno Dom. 1747.
The Condition of the above obligation is such that if the above bound John Phillips guardian of William Minter his heirs survivors and administrators do and shall well and truly pay or caused to be paid unto the said orphan all which Estate or Estates as now are and shall hear after come to the hands of said John Phillips as soon as he shall attain to … full age or when thereto required by the said Justices of the Peace for the County of Essex as also to save and keep harmless the said Justices of the Peace Their heirs and successors from all trouble and damages that shall or may arise about the said Estate or Estates then this obligation to be void and of none effect, otherwise to be and remain in full force power and virtue--

The following is a transcription of the apprenticeship papers of William Minter dated 21 February 1748, transcribed from the original images by John B. Minter 2005.
This Indenture made this 21st day of February in the year of our lord One Thousand Seven hundred and Fourty Eight, Witnesseth that Thomas Waring, Benjamin Winslow, Francis Waring & Sam. Hipkins Gent. Justices of the peace of the County of Essex do by these presents bind William Minter an orphan of the age of Sixteen years as an apprentice to Caleb Linsey of the aforesaid County with him the sd. Caleb Linsey to dwell and serve for & during the full space time & term of five years to commence and begin from the day of the date of these presents during which said term the said William Minter the aforesaid Caleb shall faithfully serve his secrets keep and all lawful commands obey and he the said Caleb doth Covenant and agree to and with said Justices aforesaid that ye said Caleb Linsey shall and will do his utmost endeavor to teach and instruct or cause to be taught and instructed the said William the art and mastery of a millwright & Carpenter and also find the said William during his continuance with him as an apprentice Sufficient Clothing meat drink washing & lodging and for true performance of all and Singular the Covenants in this Indenture mention & Comprized which on the part and behalf of the said Caleb are or ought to be performed fulfilled and kept by said Caleb then said Caleb doth bind himself his heirs [Executors ?] & Administrators by these presents in penal[ty] sum of Twenty pounds Sterling In Witness whereof the sd. Caleb Linsey have set his and seal the day & year first above written.
