Parentage of Walter Trimble
The parentage of Walter Trimble is in question. Some undocumented sources claim him to be the son of a James Trimble and Mary Palmer, other sources claim that he is a son of Robert Trimble. More research (and sources) is needed.
Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA
Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:
- Walter Trimble received a patent of land for 370 acres on "Free Mason's Run, a branch of North River Shanandore", prior to 1765 (from the records below).

Is anyone researching the family of Walter TRIMBLE who immigrated from Northern Ireland in the 1730s-40s, with his
wife, Rosanna, and others. If so, we are desperately seeking his parents. The information we have pieced together on Walter and Rosanna [ ] TRIMBLE is:
1. Walter TRIMBLE* emigrated from Ireland in the 1730's-40's.
My notes indicate he emigrated from "Armagh, Ulster County,
Northern Ireland". I wonder now whether this is correct. Is
Armagh the county? Is Ulster just another way to indicate
northern Ireland? I am confused on this point.
- 2. He was accompanied by the following (known) TRIMBLES:
- a. His wife, Rosanna* [ ] TRIMBLE.
- b. His brother, John TRIMBLE. Later became known as "North Mountain John" TRIMBLE.
- c. His brother, James TRIMBLE, later known as "Plantationer James" TRIMBLE
- d. Five brothers, who were cousins to "No. Mt. John", "Plantationer James" and Walter TRIMBLE.

- 3. Alexander TRIMBLE
- 4. James "the Surveyor" TRIMBLE. Not much data to share on this James. Upon organization of Augusta Co. 1745, James TRIMBLE was apptd deputy county surveyor [Annals of Augusta Co., 1726-1871. He married Sarah KERSEY "of the
Cowpasture] and lived near Lexington. He is buried at "Old Monmuth Graveyard", Augusta Co. Va.

- William was sheriff of Rockbridge and died 1794 Staunton while on his way to Richmond with taxes collected by him.
- 5. John TRIMBLE. This is the John TRIMBLE who later married Mary* [CHRISTIAN] MOFFETT, widow of John and mother of HANNAH MOFFETT. Hannah* MOFFETT married Robert* TRIMBLE, son of our subject WALTER TRIMBLE, cousin to this John TRIMBLE. This John TRIMBLE settled in Augusta Co. Va on Middle River, about 2-mi from Churchville, 5-mi from Buffalo Gap, 8-mi from Staunton. His widow [Mary] and brother [James, "the surveyor"] qualified abt 20 November 1764, as administrators of his estate.

If you descend from any of the above and can add, subtract or change in any way, the information as noted above, I would be most grateful if you would let me know. Again, we are particularly seeking the documented proof for parents of Walter Trimble. Also would welcome any information on Rosanna, his wife as well as a more accurate date for Walter's arrival in the colonies.
Will share all I have on any of the above; however, the above info is all I have on some of these individuals.

Bill, I have done a good bit of work on the Trimble family. I believe that I am descended from Walter who may have been a brother to John North Mtn. If you can help me determine that for sure I woukd be most appreciative. WALTER's children were Robert, Margaret, John and William. John's son was Archibald, then Joseph Addison Trimble Sr, then Joseph Jr,William ArchieSR. then JR them me. I am also seeking to know where in Ireland or Scotland the Trimbles came from. Any ideas? Hope to hear from you. Bruce Trimble, Maryville Tn.
