Another "Oldest" Mason DeadCoalton, OH. April 20 - Thompson Leach died from an attack of paralysis at the age of 92 years. Mr. Leach was a Master mason and a charter member of the lodge of this city, and at the time of his death was the oldest living Mason in Ohio and probably in the United States. He was born in Fauquies County, V. Va., March 5 1802. He was made a Mason in Parkersburg, W. VA., in 1823, and thus at the time of his death he had been a mason nearly 74 years. he moved to jackson county in 1833 and settled near Coalton, where he has lived ever since. He was twice married and is the father of nine children, and several of his boys were in the civil war.

After Fighting the Battle of Life for Almost a Century Mr. Thompson Leach succumbs to the Fell Destroyer, Paralysis and Quietly Passes Away at the Residence of his Son John T. T. Leach of Jackson Township.
Thompson Leach was born in Fauquier County, virginia, March 5th 1802 and died April 17, 1896. His paternal ancestors were English and maternal were Welsh, his mother's maden name having been Owens. His grandfather came to America in early days and died at the age of ninety five years. His father was a soldier in the Revolutionary War, serving under Lafayette. He died at the advance age of ninety years. He was a faithful and devoted member of the M.E. Church. His first marriage was with Miss Sarah Barnett. One child was born to them, a son. The mother died while he was yet in infancy. Mr. Leach joined the Free Masons at Parkersburg, April 1823. He cam to Ohio about the year 1830. At that time Mr. Leach followed the professions of teaching school. His first school was taught near Hamden in Vinton, County. He followed school teaching till about the year 1856. He was married March 30 1833 to Miss Mary Squires. Eight children were born unto them, three of whom survive him; John T., with wohom he lived on a beautiful and well kept farm in Jackson township; Robert s. who is a properous farmer and cattle dealer in Pickaway County; and David E., who resided in Wood County, West Virginia. Fife of his sons went out in defense of their country viz: Charles, John T., David, Robert S., and Philip. All returned except Philip, who is sleeping under southern sod. James N., was killed October 1889, by the explosion of a saw mill boiler. Charles W., died of asphysiation at the Holbrook Hotel, Grass Valley, California in 1893. Mrs. Leach died September 5, 1892. Mr. Leach was a man of jiant mind, always firm and unwavering in what he believed to be right, yet always courteous and respectful to those with whom he differed. He was deputy surveyor of Jackson County for a number of years. BON AMI Mr. Leach's funeral was held Sunday, April 19th under the auspices of the Masonic order. There were 74 Masons in attendance. Hon. J. W. Laird served as Chaplain. Rev. Gillespie of the M. E. Church officiated at the religious service. The funeral was a large one and was a worthy tribute to the old pioneer. The remains were interred in the family burying ground.
