Thomas Overton, widowed husband of Annie Anderson Overton, died of cerebral arteriosclerosis (since 1925), with contributing myocarditis (since 1930). The informant was Mrs. Ira Cunningham of Orrville, Ohio. It was recorded that he was the son of Thomas Overton and Elizabeth Fowler (all born in Choppington, England), he worked as a tile and brick manufacturer for 30 years until 1910, and he had been residing in the United States for 50 years.

Personal History

Thomas Overton, (second) son of Thomas Overton by Elizabeth Fowler,[10] was born on 13 November 1855[10] in Newcastle-on-Tyne, Northumberland, England[10] (the birth was registered in the district of Morpeth[1]).

Thomas Overton (occ. joiner), age 22, arrived in Philadelphia on the S.S. Sarmatian by 1 February 1878. The ship originated in Liverpool. It was recorded in the manifest that he was from Choppington, England, and had a final destination of Massillon, (Stark co.,) Ohio.[7]

On 1 April 1881, Thomas Overton, then aged 25 years, appeared at the probate office in Wooster, Wayne co., Ohio, to declare his intention to become a citizen of the United States, and a certificate of declaration was granted by the probate judge.[8] He returned to court on 8 October 1883 to take the oath and be admitted a citizen.[9]

A marriage license was issued 22 June 1907 in Summit co., Ohio, to Thomas Overton (occ. brick maker) from “near” Canal Fulton, (Stark co.,) Ohio, and Ellen Rosenbery (occ. dressmaker) of Akron, Ohio. It was stated that both of them were previously married once, and Ellen was a divorced woman. They were married the same day by Rev. F. W. Luce.
