Thomas Neal was baptised on 13th April 1856 at Flamstead in Hertfordshire, son of a straw hat sewer named Ann Neal, formerly Foster, and her husband Thomas Neal, an agricultural labourer.

Thomas appears with his parents and siblings living in Flamstead in the 1861 census. He does not appear to have been at home with his parents on the census night in 1871, but by 1881 he was married and living next door to his parents at Delmer End in Flamstead. Thomas has yet to be traced after 1881.
