Facts and Events
Thomas Gobby's origins are unknown. His first confirmed sighting is in 1808, when he married Ann Dennis at Woburn in Bedfordshire. Between 1809 and 1813 the couple had three daughters baptised at Woburn, before moving to Toddington where they appear to have had two sons between about 1815 and 1817. Some of the children's baptisms describe Thomas as a labourer. Thomas has not been definitively traced after the birth of his youngest child in 1817. There was a widower called Thomas Gobby who married Isabella Clark at Toddington in 1821. However, no sign has been found of Ann dying between 1817 and 1821. Moreover, the Thomas who appears in the 1841 census at Toddington with Isabella then also seems to appear in the 1851 census living with an Ann Millard whose maiden name was Gobby, making it likely that she was a relative, but the connection is not clear. |
