As to whether Squire was married or not, I would guess no. There is no one buried with him and I have never found any sign of a marriage. I have checked the marriage index for Illinois numerous times and have never found anything. I asked around the family, if anyone remembered my grandfather or his siblings talking about Squire Jones. A few aunts and also my dad, remembered my grandpa mentioning him on numerous occasions. My dad's recollection of stories he had heard were that my grandfather really respected him. In fact, before we even found out who Squire was, my dad asked if I had come across a man named Squire Jones in the family. He had always assumed that SQUIRE was a title, not a name. But that is natural with this name.

The other reason I don't believe he was ever married is because of what my dad's cousin Del said about his recollections. Del is the grandson of Myrtle Quiggle and James "Bert" Wylie (who by the way was astounded that Myrtle and Bert were cousins). He remembers his grandma Myrtle talking with great fondness about Squire. He said that he believes that Squire had a big house, and he often had the entire family over for meals and such. No one remembers anyone ever mentioning a wife, but Del thinks he had someone who kept house for him, because he always had the opinion that he was a rich man. And like he said when he was growing up only the rich had housekeepers in those days. And he thinks that is what he remembers hearing about him. --Lisa Holcomb <sweetiebird68@@yahoo.com>, e-mail, Sept. 9, 2002
